They updated a little while before we posted that. Edit *oops* we linked to http://www.funimation.com/?page=newshowagogo, which hadn't updated yet. But we're also watching their news page: http://www.funimation.com/f_index.cfm?page=news&id=516, which is where this was posted first. -t Last edited by Tempest on Sun Dec 28, 2008 1:05 am; edited 1 time in total |

Haven't seen this one, yet. But, I heard it was genius. I'll probably be pre-ordering it real soon.

I watched it literally one year ago. Damn good except some parts at the end. However, it certainly won't suit most peoples taste with its avant-garde art style. It was fairly hard on the eyes at first, but you get used to it. Once you do, it's beautiful and story is compelling (obviously no nihonjin can be thanked for this aspect), and the music is well done. I haven't read the Count of Monte Cristo, but I have heard from multiple sources that this is actually one the better adaptations ever made of it, which would make sense since most movies can only be so long, not 24 episodes. I had a friend who wanted to get it, but the high price of the Geneon set kept him from it, I might consider it as well.
This and Last Exile were the only good rescues, as they were pretty much the best Studio GONZO had ever made, I look forward to the hopefully cheap boxsets. |

This is good news indeed. I've been wanting to pick up the series, although with it being scarce haven't had the chance to. Now that Funi has it I won't worry about having to go broke when I order it. Thank you Funi!

I sincerly hope that the packaging is as good as the Geneon one. I've been meaning to buy that set but it's kept me back from doing so.

Broadcasting rights and home video rights can be sold to different entities separately.
Probably just a clearance item. |

If I don't find any remaining back stock of vols. 4-6, I will buy this box set and then sell off the single discs I've already got!
THANK YOU FUNIMATION! I WANT YOU TO HAVE MY E-CHILDREN! <3<3<3<3 Now, if they'll also get Gungrave, Fushigi Yuugi, and Mad Bull 34... (When it comes to license rescues, why stop with just Geneon and ADV titles?) |

This is my favorite series that geonon had next to Gungrave and Samurai Champloo so I'm very happy to see it get another chance. Love the OST and it has some of the most endearing characters I've seen.

And now... all that are left are Seto no Hanayome, Soul Eater, and Evangelion to announce. Oh god, i guess my dream that Spice and Wolf, or a Kodomo no Jikan license has gone downhill after today...
oh and by the way this proves my point that funimation has some sort of partnership with gonzo... nevertheless, I heard so many good things about this title... I cant wait to check it out this time around. Last edited by sailorsean on Sun Dec 28, 2008 4:36 am; edited 2 times in total |

If y'all be curious, there's some boxed sets of the Geneon release for very reasonable prices:
http://www.amazon.com/Gankutsuou-Count-Monte-Cristo-Complete-Set/dp/B000TZX62A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1230454391&sr=1-1 I dunno, it seems interesting, but in some ways it seems a bit TOO avant-garde with the patterned underlays for clothes and the far-future thing, but I guess it's mostly interesting because of the experimental style of the animation. Am I the only one who gets a Castlevanian Dracula vibe from the main character? |

excellent! now they just need to pick up Paranoia Agent to fully satisfy me! Probably the only 2 Geneon titles that I wanted, but never really bothered to get.

http://www.babesbladesbloodbeauty.com/ They have something to do with Gonzo at least. I'm not sure if it's a partnership, or if they just like to do bulk advertisements with a studio's name as the masthead. |
