I heard rumors it was being dubbed into English up in Canada and it seems they were right.
Unfortunately I also heard that all the names are changed and that its getting a full "Americanization" style dub. Since the deal is with YTV directly, I wonder if Toei has any plans at all for a DVD release? I don't believe that YTV has ever had a contract directly with the Japanese before, so this is definitely unique. |

It seems there is confirmation of the name changes:

If Toei's going to change the names and all, I don't want it. Not to mention I doubt they are going to do dual language DVDs. Toei is so backwards.

Or have Rush re-record the OP... Seriously, I watched a few Episodes of PreCure on Toei's Crunchyroll stream. As a show, It's quite poor (The animation's dated, the plots are needlessly boring and repetitive, and it will never end) but will probably attract a sizable audience for itself and the merchandising avalanche that will most likely follow. That's a good question though... will a merchandising avalanche follow? Is it profitable for a toy company like Bandai America to produce and market toys for a show that is only airing in Canada and streaming subbed only online? I would think that this TV deal might not be enough to warrant a large amount of merchandising at this point... they'd have to get it on US tv somewhere. |

I agree with you Precure isn't all that good after all... the only reason toei wanted north america to license it is becuase after that then they'll have it shown in all continents of the world... (or to the ones that matter) but still i agree its kinda boring and outdated... I don't know why but toei's staff isn't all great at animation, just look at their version of kanon, air, and clannad... they suck at storytelling too! but you know what magical girl show really needs to make it here?... Shugo Chara! I got hooked from the first episode... (actually from the catchy opening ) And I can tell, even if there are name changes and such, its gonna be BIG here! |

At least it's better to have a real magical girl anime than the "animesque" Winx Club show that YTV currently airs *shudder*. I don't mind name changes, though. It's an inevitable process that occurs when an anime series gets aired on daytime TV (unless the english dub is a gag dub like Duel Master and Idaten jump) |

If it where just the online stream, then no. But Getting this show on TV - assuming that it's at a good Saturday Morning Time slot - will attract viewers, and if the install base is large enough, merchandise will appear. It won't likely be immediately, though. Also, If YTV's dub proves to be popular, an American channel would most likely pick it up. As for not appearing in the United States, Degrassi: The Next Generation - A Canadian show that draws in huge ratings and some merchandise domestically. It did appear later in the US, but was very popular before it came over here. |

Seems like this will be another Cardcaptors (ugh!). I am assuming that Toei just moved forward with whatever 4Kids had already had dubbed, hence the copious edits expected as well as the westernization of the names.

Hasn't Naruto's success proved that Americanization isn't totally necessary?
