Looks kinda interesting, but I wish it were at a better angle. Also, mixed on that lil thing on its head - looks somewhat like a Samurai now.

Ah well, Unit 0 was always my favorite anyway.

The design does its job. I'm not too concerned with the mecha provided they're the same general colour and shape- my attention's on news of the new character.

Meh, it'd be great, but the incompetence of all the people who make the decisions in anime production and distribution (worldwide, i.e the Japanese who make it) means that the first film STILL isn't anywhere on the horizon more than a year since its debut in Japan, so therefore I can have absolutely zero enthusiasm for this piece of news.

How much longer is this sort of crap going to go on for? I honestly am very surprised that more hasn't been done other than a few odds and ends being put on streaming websites, since the open letter to the industry posted here on ANN.

Like the poster before me, I'm not at all excited. Why in the world do these Japanese companies overcharge for these types of titles? Do they really think R1 companies can afford it right now?

Not too big on the horns, and the added white stripe seems a bit off design color logic, like 01, but at least it's not neon like the aforementioned's green.

All in all, at least they're keeping to the original for the most part, but the minor revisions sort of reek more of selling new merchandise rather than actually improving the aesthetics.

Looks about the same as the other redesigns (minimal). Only part I don't like is the horns.

I really like the horns, I think it's much more fitting of Asuka this way.
I also like the added use of black in the arms and body. Overall it's a very sharp update that works for me.

I have very mixed feelings on this. Because I am so used to the original design, the horns are a bit of a turn off at first glance, but depending on the aesthetics of the other new Eva it might actually fit. I wonder if it was Anno or a separate designer that came up with this redesign, because I would like to think Anno has some ulterior motive to his designs - it would concern me more if he was not the main source of this look.

Most of the redesigns are pretty subtle, and I've got no problem with them. The horns look interesting, but I'm holding final judgement until I see how they look in action. As Emerje said, they are kinda more fitting of Asuka.

Maybe not in America, but a subbed-only version is due out in Australia from Red-Ant next week, on November 19.

Yeah that's good and all, but I need to see if it'll be a NTSC-PAL conversion or a proper 35mm to PAL transfer. If it's the former than I'll wait for a NTSC release with English subtitles (though not the R3 Kong Kong release) so avoid NTSC-PAL conversion artifacts. I don't really go near PAL anymore because of the 4% speed up that occurs, as a pose to 2:3 pulldown in 35mm to NTSC, which can be eliminated with the correct video processors. Hrm, though maybe video processors can eliminate 4% speed-up as well.
Either way I just want to wait for a proper American release in all its glory somewhere down the line.

I like the new colours I hope that hand is supposed to look grey I think thats a big improvement on the baby blue of the old design. As for the horns Im not sure. We're used to seeing samurai style designs with mecha but it seems a bit out of place on an EVA.

Granted, I'm sort of an averse-to-change kinda person, but these "redesigns" feel really pointless to me. Or, more importantly, I feel like like they just added a stripe and a few tiny details to the old design just so they could sell/make more figures.

Exactly. An EVA is supposed to be fearsome and primal, a barely-controlled beast, not sport a racing stripe and horns which look like a large tumour from a low angle.

Though not disgusted by this new look, I am peeved. What was wrong about the original?

Got it in one. As the great Yogurt would say, "Merchandising...where the real money from the movie is made!" Razz
