Whoaaaa, how cool; not that many people can claim to be real manga characters (except Otakukin, but let's not go there).
This Jason Thompson looks like a cool guy. Who doesn't afraid of anything.

Jason, if you're reading this, you better dub in your own voice to this episode should it ever get animated.

Gotta be a pain for Jason, though. If he ends up giving Fairy Tail a decent score in the second edition of that manga guide, will it be considered impartial?

Now that's just cool. I'd kill to be put into my favorite manga. Wish I were him just so I could brag to everyone "dudes, I'm in a manga!" (Not as important as some things but you go with what you can.)

I think he's already reviewed it in Otaku USA, and gave it a great review, and that was well before this.
I think Jason has reached a new nerd plateau, for which all others must now aim

He's even moar awesome in person. People go to his convention panels just to hear him speak (and how he spent 18 months reading every single manga volume in America to do The Guide).
Either way, Jason is now officially the guy. I think Patrick Macias has been on some NHK show, but this ... wins.
EDIT: Oh wait, I just remembered there was a "Smith Toren" in Gunbuster.
But Jason's still The Guy.

Is it sad that the first thing I thought of when I read that was Spy Kids 3D?
And chiming in with the "this is awesome" sentiments. It looks like a hilarious character. Also, I think it's great that he's taking such an over-the-top character as a compliment and laughing at himself with it. I love people who don't take themselves seriously.

Patachu: Gunbuster > NHK + Fairy Tale, especially since it's the only decent Anno mecha anime.

I've heard of it happening before, but not too often. You Higuri drew a comic about her visit to ACEN in volume 10 of Cantarella which included several real Americans in it.
Anyone hear of any other cases like these?

How big a role was Smith Toren in? Jason was the main source of comedy for the episode, constantly shouting how COOOOL everyone was except for Lucy.

Smith was the final stone in turning Noriko from "angsty and mostly useless" to "the most Hot-blooded female pilot ever"

I actually didn't know him by name, if you can believe it ^-^;; but this cool for him. So he gets cooler, Fairy Tail is cool already and gets cooler for having him, and Mashima is cool for doing something like this. All cool all round xD

I must agree with this logic completely.
