Heh props to Diesel for not having a cow over this. I think it's cool that they think it's a tribute.

Thats cool for her they aren't trying to sue. But even still, with their nod, i still don't condone tracing.

To be honest, that pose of the couple isn't particularly original, anyway. If you're gonna accuse someone of copying, it's for something which would be considered distinct somehow. But I guess that doesn't matter, as long as it's copyrighted...

Look at the comparison picture again. She not only copied the pose of the couple in the ad, she copied the background in its entirety.

Plagiarism to the T and lack of creativity in her 15 years of work. She deserved the punishment, even though she has already apologized to the public and her fans. Here's another helpful link of comparison of advertisement and her artwork: http://nittakensyoumirror.web.fc2.com/top.html

Props to Diesel! I think it's great that they don't feel inclined to sue this woman out of everything she owns just because they can. And really, Nitta didn't even think it was wrong, there were no ill intentions, and Diesel was wonderful to acknowledge this and not obsess with money.

Nitta is still in the wrong, but an eye for an eye makes the world go blind.

I agree. I don't condone tracing, but it's great that Diesel's not making this into a huge scandalous mess, and that it's basically kinda going down quietly (The otaku community does not need another messy scandal right now o_o)

Uhhhmmm.... this is actually called a "swipe" not a direct copy. If you take notice in American comics, they do this a lot, and they do this even to their own works... At first, when I heard about the "tracing" issue, I thought it was direct copy... but the artist actually changed a bit, look at the legs and heads. Background? Doesn't matter. I have a feeling that the company just didn't want to pay the artist anything, or there was some drama between the artist and the company so they made up some elaborate story about "tracing". This is what happens when people who aren't artists manage people who are...

Well...if I may be a bit sarcastic...: this won't do much to further Nitta's rep in the community (I use that term loosely, like Otaku commu, Artist's commu, Mangaka commu and the like...), But it sure does make Diesel look good, heh. Props for them not making it a big deal.

Elly: The emphasis is on the couple, though, not the background.

"Nitta, don't worry, we're not that kind of brand, we consider this a tribute, only the greatest are copied, right? But honestly, our chick is hotter than yours!"

chick, maybe (I thought she was scary)
Person on bottom? Nitta wins.

I checked out several of the "tracings" & am really shocked at what passes for plagiarism. A lot of these are poses only & she changed everything else about the pix. I didn't think poses are copyrightable. That shirt on Marilyn Manson looked like Lips/Rocky Horror which most anyone can buy if they want. The shot of Brad Pitt seemed to be ref also. I thought it was ok to use pix as refs to make sure one got the proportions right.
In fact, I swear a couple of those ads looked like poses from movies. I bet I could find some of those poses re-watching Caberet or some Marlene Dietrich movies.
Now, the ones where she kept the clothes--that was very stupid/naive of her. Copying an outfit? I don't know the legalities of that. If one sees a dress in a catalog & draws it on one's character in a different position, is that wrong? (I don't draw so I don't know).

I presume they've decided that the free advertising from the scandal is worth more than what they'd get if they sue.
