Technically, it IS... it's just not a terribly impressive one.

Whatever, he can keep his certificates as long as he doesn't start bragging about how he made the stealth genre, that's bull. He may have gotten there first, but judging from the NES version, Metal Gear is a pretty piss-poor stealth game. MGS may be better, but it was beaten to the market by Thief, which far outclasses it. And Thief II outclasses them both.

Sorry. It just irks me a little when people talk about what a great stealth game MGS is and completely ignore the Thief series. Not as much as when people talk about the whole open-world concept as being derived from GTA when cRPGs had been doing it for at least a decade before, but still...

Ahhh, I'm griping pointlessly. Ignore me...

That's why the Guinness Books of Records is more of a joke nowadays.

Gamer's edition I mean.

I guess it's all about who created the first successful stealth game. GTA may not have been the first to have an open world but it is the most wildly successful and controversial franchise in the genre.

You saw their "Cosplay" record? 80 Cosplayers in one area, with at least 20 little brats dressed up as Mario.

If they had to get 20 "scabs" to at least make the record seem "epic" then you have to wonder about the rest of the book.

Are you kidding me?

This is what you spend your free time complaining about?

I stopped playing MGS after the second game.
It's just not up my alley.

Didn't Kojima want to move on to different projects?

He did, but then there were death threats. MGS4 will be his last work in the series.

This most likely will be his last work in the MGS series, but it isn't his last in Metal Gear. He has stated that the Metal Gear franchise will move forward, just that Snake won't be there. He also said he would most likely take a backseat role in the development of any new Metal Gear titles, to allow the younger developers have a shot.

It's hard to say how serious that explanation is (probably not, IMO).

At any rate, game companies put much pressure on their top staff to continue working on the big moneymakers. If other developers are any indication, Kojima probably has good financial incentive to comply (remember that MGS2 was supposedly his "last", then MGS3, and so forth), given that he'll never receive the same kind of bonuses with new properties.

No, in my real job, I don on some snazzy suits, a hairpiece, and claim i'm from some part of a working class area of New York. Oh, and I spout out "The Spin Stops Here."

If some sources can be believed, they did a 8X smackdown against the British.

And thats what kinda irked me about the record. You have both American and Japanese cons that could easily break that record in one weekend. Guinness spends untold hours and money to send "officials" around the world to research and verify records. And this is the best they could do?

I was the guy who saw it first-hand. There was no real reason to attend it other than for the sake of attendance itself. Had it happened at a con the figure would have been a little more substantial.
