Oh man, that so sums up my reaction to that 'how to draw anime' book some distant relative got me when they found out I was into that kooky Japanese cartoon stuff. Masterfully done.

Yep. That's what I have to deal with at work everyday. Or at least when the next shipment comes into the library.
Just because anyone can draw doesn't mean they should. Last edited by prime_pm on Tue May 06, 2008 11:30 pm; edited 1 time in total |

I have gone through those books, and I can't figure out how in the world they can be considered anime, I mean I have a hard enough time even considering those things cartoons

Nina's expression is priceless as always. And btw nice Doug Smith shout out there. I love his works and have spent too much money on art prints from him at cons lol. Even an original too.

A long time ago, in grade 7 or 8, one of the art electives I chose taught how-to-draw comics, and we were actually taught how to draw anime. The book we used was really good, and actually looked like anime. I wish I could buy that one. Later I bought a different one and it looks like shit :/ cartoon style.

Could someone help me out here, please? What exactly was so wrong that caused Nina to be so traumatised? I'm not being sarcastic or belligerant - I honestly do not get the joke, and I'm hoping someone will be patient enough to explain it to me. I know that a joke explained is not as funny. But, having never read one of those "How to" books, I will never figure it out by myself.
Was it the larger than normal breasts on the female figure? I feel so left out of the community...... |

Don't worry, you're not alone! I too am scratching my head in confusion over this comic. I guess because I've never actually flipped through those How to Draw books before. |

Aww, I was kind of expecting a nod to Christopher Hart.
Still the only good how-to book ever made. |

What happened? I don't get it. Is there something wrong with the book or is there something wrong with Nina? OR is this something to do with that kid having idea about ninja anime...
This is my first attempt to add little picture on the left, I am not sure have I done it correctly or not, but we show see. Last edited by ilkz on Wed May 07, 2008 12:34 am; edited 1 time in total |

Most of these books are a joke and look like nothing from any anime. As a kid I used to draw characters in an anime style all of the time without the help of any book, but then again most of the characters I drew ended up looking like something from DBZ.
