glad to have someone who is intimately familiar with the original work on the reviews for this - when it comes up, the added cultural context will surely be nice for people to whom this story is new.
many grew up with it, but I actually first read it in a children's lit class in college, and fell in love, then watched the takahata show, which became one of my favorite anime of all time instantly too. so I was a bit reserved about a new anime adaptation coming out now. but once I got used to the new pacing, I actually started to appreciate it. it's kind of nice to have a pretty different take on the same material instead of trying to mimic either the book or the older show too closely. I hope people try it out. anne is one of the most charming characters ever crafted. |

As someone who does generally enjoy the 1979 anime version for taking its time with both the story and characters, I'm not generally a fan of the super fast pacing here, but that's not to say Anne Shirley as a show isn't good because of it. I definitely enjoy what it has to offer, even if I personally prefer the 1979 version. It's certainly better than a lot of the crappy isekai slop that keeps getting churned out these days.

There no way this show will avoid addressing why Gilbert's spoiler[hair is pink], right? You can't keep Anne's anxiety over spoiler[being a redhead] and then give her spoiler[future husband an even weirder hair colour. What kind of fruit-looking shade are their kids going to have?]

The series' Japanese website announces that it will adapt three novels (entirely or in part, it doesn't say) and specifically credits the 1950s Japanese translations by Muraoka Hanako, who brought the whole Anne series and several other Montgomery novels to the Japanese public.

Anne of Green Gables is such a wonderful story. Frankly, I never read the book, but I’m such a huge fan of the Megan Follows/Colleen Dewhurst miniseries (or series of movies?). I still remember them so clearly after all these years.
Despite that, I’m not sure the anime is for me. It’s certainly doing a beautiful job adapting the story, but I think I’d rather go back and rewatch that miniseries instead. (But I’ll keep coming back to read Rebecca’s marvelous reviews!) |

So it looks like there's probably no plans for an English dub (as of this post), it's a shame. I wanted to see this anime getting a dub done in Canada with Ocean Group/Blue Water studio to do it given the setting of the anime and the novel the anime was based on, and probably able to get past actors/actresses that was involved with past production of Anne of Green Gables. I mean getting Megan Fallows to voice Marilla Cuthbert would've been nice to see if that had happened. I'm still putting my hope up for a possible English dub for this Anne Shirley anime, but I'm not sure if that'll happen.

Actually, Crunchyroll listed Anne Shirley has having a dub in the works on one of their announcement pages. And yes, I really hope they give it a Canadian cast. The 1979 anime went with a British cast in South Africa for its dub for some reason. |

Oh thank goodness, I'm glad to hear that. Here's hoping that Crunchyroll can get Ocean Group/Blue Water studio to do the dub, and I hope Megan Fallows can be casted as Marilla for this dub. |

Adapting three novels into 24 episodes sounds like a daunting task, especially when you consider that Takahata got 52-episodes out of the original and the fanfiction prequel ran for 39 episodes.
Unless the Japanese rights holder commissioned the dub themselves, I wouldn't expect it to be a Canadian production. Also, Fallows as Marilla would make a lot of people feel really old.  She's trying to get a show about Lucy Maud Montgomery's life made (with her playing the part), so it's not a guarantee that she'd be against being involved but ...

True, but the novels often function as a series of vignettes and feel almost like short story collections at times, so adapting some sections and cutting others could work better with Anne than with many other series. |

They have to, it would be a big dishonor if they didn't commission an English dub and use the Canadian cast. I don't know how many Canadian actors including Fallows are aware of the Anne Shirley anime. I mean P.E.I's tourism board has been betting hard on this anime to help revitalize their tourism, so they're aware of this anime. This is why I'm having high hope that Crunchyroll could have the English dub use the Canadian cast and Ocean Group/Blue Water studio to do the dub, and I'm highly hoping for Megan to voiced Marilla. I mean she might be in her late 50's, but I think she's at the right age to voice the character. I mean what's wrong with having Megan voicing Marilla for the English dub for this anime. I mean you have Patty Duke playing Helen Keller in The Miracle Worker, and then she later played Annie Sullivan in the 1979 TV film adaptation of that same title. If Patty Duke can played Helen Keller and Annie Sullivan decade apart, then it should be fair for Megan to voiced Marilla for this anime given that she played Anne in CBC's previous adaptation. |

As a fan of Anne, I'm loving this remake so far. It's doing a great job capturing the spirit of the books, making Green Gables look as beautiful as possible, making the characters feel lively and real, and capturing what makes Anne so special as a character.
I also want to give credit to Honoka Inoue. I didn't even realize she was Kikuko Inoue's actual daughter but she's been doing an amazing job capturing all of Anne's...Anne-ness and her energy, passion, overdramatics, and zest for life and gift for gab. Find a girl who will get imaginative and name everything she sees, will not stand for seeing her looks (which she's self-conscious about) insulted, is so endearing and charming, and cements her friendships with a literal oath. And that's what makes her so fantastic as a character. I am curious if they're waiting to introduce spoiler[Gilbert] before showing the OP/ED. |

Never heard of this book.
I really liked it, the review already explained why so no point going at it. So I am gonna comment in something different: This is a textbook example of traditional history telling for women: Anne seeks social dominance, she is already great, her "hero journey" is to get society to understand it. A traditional male power fantasy is to become great, his "hero journey" is to get power and attain physical dominance, society its irrelevant. The reason isekai protagonists are insufferable it's because they combine both types of main character, so we have an overpowered whiny little b!tch who seeks everybody to get how great he is with no hero journey. Rant over. Anyways, anybody seeking to write a "Girl book" should read/watch this, good tutorial. |

I watched the mini series religiously and read the first book as a kid. I still remember scenes and stuff from both and wish Colleen, Richard, and Jonathan (Marilla, Mathew, and Gilbert respectively) were still with us to aide in the dub. As I watched the first two episodes, I was taken back and I could hear Megan Follow's voice as Anne too in certain parts. So it's off to a good start. Book wise? I think it may remain faithful as well.
