What a nice surprise to see A Sign of Affection get nominated!
Still, where is Natsume in continuing series?

I think we can accept One Piece is here forever, and it's not the only continuing series (not counting sequels).
Also, the best opening, "Kaiju", the opening for Orb, wasn't nominated. Orb doesn't have a single nomination. It better be on next year's list.

"Bling-Bang-Bang-Born" is the best intro.
Shangri-La is not an isekai, #changemymind.

still the same absurdly small amount of shows to vote on, but at least the English voice acting options are folks who were present for the entire show and actually spoke the entire time.

The "Must Protect at All Costs" category choices are. . . interesting.
In general, this is a surprisingly reasonable list for an awards show that doesn't have a good track record. The lack of Orb suggests that this may be a fluke rather than an actual intent to nominate based on quality, as 2024 was the rare year where many of the best shows were also among the most popular ones.
For Best Voice Artist - English, Mallorie Rodak did a wonderful job as Frieren, but SungWon Cho should win for Senshi. I can't imagine that role being done better in English. In Japanese, Kenichi Suzumura's performance as Bravern is worthy of recognition, but Aoi Yuki's Maomao should be hard to beat.
Many other categories have intriguing possibilities. Can Himmel pull off a win in Best Supporting Character, for instance? Do the two Creepy Nuts songs in the same category cancel each other out?

Orb should be in next years' awards, as it didn't start until the Fall '24 season. CR goes Fall-Summer for their nominations instead of Winter-Fall, for some reason.
Makeine shouldn't have been in SOL, but they should've been in Comedy, IMO.

That's changed this year. they will now be doing Winter to Fall, which is why for this year, the eligibility window is five seaosns

I haven't watched all of the nominated anime, I'm currently watching some of them like Frieren and The Apothecary Diaries, but these are my humble opinions of some of the nominations:
- Anime of the year: I watched Dan Da Dan, Dungeon Meshi and Kaiju No. 8. and I've enjoyed all of them, but I think I liked Kaiju No. 8 the most
- Best Original Anime: I haven't seen it but I think Girls Band Cry will be the winner as I believe it was the most popular. I saw a couple of episodes of Bucchigiri?! and it's not that I didn't like it but I didn't finish watching it because I was busy with other things. Metallic Rouge and Ninja Kamui were a dissapointment to me and I dropped them.
- Best continuing series: I only saw Spy×Family and Demon Slayer, but I think I'll go with the latter.
- Best Opening/Ending Sequence: in terms of visuals, for the opening I think I'll go with Otonoke, while for the ending I choose Kamakura Style.
- Best Action: Demon Slayer, just because of the battle against Muzan, though Kaiju No. 8 got a lot of action as well.
- Best Comedy: My Deer Friend Nokotan, and that's because the Neutral Spanish dub adapted well some of the jokes
- Best Animation: Dan Da Dan.
- Best Background Art: Dungeon Meshi.
- Best Character Design: Frieren
- Best Main Character: Kafka Hibino
- Best Supporting Character: Senshi
- Best "Must Protect Under All Cost" (Does this means "moe"?): Frieren
- Best Anime Song: "Abyss"
- Best VA Performance - Latin American Spanish (since that's my language). I think I'll give a general opinion of each and talk about other roles they had this year
- Alicia Vélez: they made a good job as Momo, but I think I prefer Azucena Estrada's interpretation in the Netflix dub. I think Alicia stood out more in their role as Female Ranma.
- Desireé Gonzalez: she's doing an amazing job as Mao Mao and in her social media she mentioned that she started reading the novels, so maybe it'll her getting more into character.
- Erika Ugalde: I'm currently watching Frieren and I love the way she voices the eponymous character, though it's really funny she also voices Marcille in Dungeon Meshi and how different she makes both elves sound.
- Luis Leonardo Suárez: he continues to do a great job as Muzan, but the impact was bigger when the dub of the first season was released 4 years ago. Still the conversation in the scene between him as Muzan and Idzi Dutkiewicz as Ubuyashiki was incredible.
- Miguel Ángel Leal: I can't give an opinion since I'm not a big fan of Attack of Titan, but the clips I've seen of Miguel as Eren sounded great. I think he did a good job as Himmel in Frieren
- Omar Sánchez: he did a great job as Kafka, which it's interesting since he doesn't have that many big roles aside from him. Hope he gets more roles in the future.
Well, from all those VAs I've mentioned I'd say Erika Ugalde wins for her role as Frieren (and Marcille).

I did my part and voted, though I expect Solo Leveling to sweep most, if not all, it's categories, since it's the hot thing right now. I don't see Kick Back winning either, even though it deserves it. Song and OP will likely go to Bling-Bang-Bang-Born, the others I'm not sure about, but we'll see I suppose.

It isn't. It doesn't even have the "trapped in the game" gimmick of shows like SAO and Log Horizon.

I'm a bit confused. Could someone explain the rules for category Anime of the Year? Best Continuing Series and Best New Series makes perfect sense to me, but does Anime of the Year distinguish between the two categories? It just seems odd to me that it's the exact same list for Anime of the Year and Best New Series. Were zero sequal seasons really not impactful enough to get nominated?
Also, I wonder if people combined Solo Leveling season 1 and 2 in their minds when nominating it in various categories (I know season 1 was super popular, just wondering).

Sigh. Another year of anime awards with less than 5% of the total anime shows for that year represented.

Regardless of quality, barring the third season of Thousand Year Blood War (and One Piece, which is just sort of going to be in that category forever and that's it) all the sequel series had much more muted receptions compared to their prior seasons. Especially with Oshi no Ko, it felt like you couldn't escape the first season in comparison to the second

Okay, there are still some misconceptions for this award show. While I like the idea of an award show solely dedicated to anime productions this one still has it's flaws even in the ninth installment.
For example: How could it be that in the voice actor categories can be two nominations for one series? It would have made sense to split these kind of categories into male and female voice actors respectively.
For the character award, I miss some older categories like "Best Antagonist" or "Best Couple". Even here, we could split up Best Main Character into a male and female character and it doesn't even need to be named "Best Boy" or "Best Girl". Same goes out for Best Supporting Character. And I can not understand why they got rid of "Best Fantasy" category and replaced it with "Best Isekai"...
The song categories are like a hodgepodge of the most popular tracks or tracks from the most popular shows. Then yeah, most of the nominees are titles aired on Crunchyroll, so the majority of shows aired on other platforms are not represented. There still more critical things to point out, but enough of my rant (for now).
If I go through the categories, I would vote like this (I only chose those nominated series, I have actually watched):
Anime of the Year - Frieren
Movie of the Year - /
Best Continuing Series - Oshi no Ko Season 2
Best New Series - Frieren
Best Original Anime - Girls Band Cry
Best Animation - either Frieren or Solo Leveling
Best Character Design - Frieren
Best Director - Frieren
Best Background Art - Frieren
Best Soundtrack - either Frieren or Solo Leveling
Best Opening - Oshi no Ko Season 2
Best Ending - Oshi no Ko Season 2
Best Anime Song - Frieren
Best Romance - Blue Box
Best Action - Solo Leveling
Best Comedy - KonoSuba Season 3 (here, I think "My Deer Friend Nokotan" should not have been nominated. It is comedy series, yes. But it was not even funny. It felt for me like you need to know some background knowledge to get the majority of the jokes. Personally, I prefered "No Longer Allowed in Another World" over Nokotan)
Best Isekai - Mushoku Tensei (I haven't seen "Shangri-La Frontier" but a lot of people saying that it is not an isekai series, so it should not have been nominated.)
Best Drama - Frieren (I like OnK, but Frieren really hit my feels more than OnK did)
Best Slice of Life - Makeine (again, Nokotan should not have been nominated, there were even better shows like "Days with My Step Sister" or even "Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian")
Best Main Character - Frieren
Best Support Character - Himmel
Needs to be protected - Yuki Itose (I really was expecting that Ivy from "Weakest Tamer" would get a nod here. And I think that this category is Anya territory.)
Best Voice Acting Japanese - Atsumi Tanezaki as Frieren
Best Voice Acting German - /
The other VA categories I am ineligible to vote for.

Shangri-La Frontier is not an isekai. A basic mistake like that really speaks to the pedigree of the awards.
