Now, I don't follow all this VTuber stuff, but that's a fun way to say you fired someone.

If she'd been fired she wouldn't have had a graduation.

I was curious as well, graduation is the term they use for leaving the company or retiring, whatever the reason. This do include being fired out as some Vtubers can "graduate" after a few months if they're not successful enough for the company...

When a VTuber graduates from Hololive it usually signifies the end of their career and hence why it is used interchangeably. Sometimes it is used to describe a VTuber leaving the Hololive roster, while other times it is used to describe retirement.

Graduation might seem like a strange way to describe the process, however, it comes from Japanese and Korean pop bands. When a JPop band member decides to leave graciously to pursue a solo career or retire it’s described as graduation.

I find it cute how they use """graduate""" as weasel word for anything from "I'm getting the hell outta here" to "you're goddamn fired!"

Graduation doesn't apply to being fired. Those are called 'terminations'. There's been at least 4 within Hololive Productions, so they don't exactly sugarcoat it.

World would be a happier place if people that don't follow subjects didn't offer their completely off the mark two cents on everything lmfao

Are these people not allowed to move on from a "job" to something else in life?

Are these people not allowed to have disagreements with how their company is doing things and want to go independent or just move on altogether?

Instead it's just "LMAO they got FIRED, OMG", insanity

Graduation, at least for Hololive, refers to when the talent is quitting. If they're being fired it's made clear by saying their contract is being terminated. This happened with Rushia and Mel as they both breached their contracts and were not allowed to graduate.

It's an insane term to use no matter what it's a euphamism for. And yes in the music industry too. But that's anything with roots in idols for you

She probably asked for more money, Hololive said no, so she resigned. But it's just my guess (based on life experience).

People speculate it was more about agency pushing her into musical career like either popular V-tubers which she did not like.

Despite whatever less savory origins the term "graduation" may have come from, my perception is that the term has been taken and turned into a celebration for the departing talent, and a way for both the audience and fellow performers to show their appreciation. It has always been my stance that hololive, et al are a variant of idol groups, so it makes sense that "graduation" gets used in the proper context.

Exactly. Graduation is the talent leaving of their own choice, regardless of the reason. Cover has had terminations, including two this year, and they were described as such. Additionally, a terminated talent has their whole channel removed.

Not really, it just means they've chosen to leave. Nothing wrong with the term at all or even the action taken. It's a more positive term than quitting, which has negative connotations.

Graduation announcements also are a chance for the fans to come together and honor the person with the time they have left, which did happen with Fauna here for about a month or so. There is sadness yes but it is also a time of rememberence of all the good times together while making do with the available time left. It's a celebration as well as a goodbye.

And if they're fired, they have their contract terminated and that's not sugarcoated. There is no good times of rememberence or celebrations. They're just gone.
