Didn’t see it in the US Top 10, so I guess it was doing numbers in Europe. Still, that’s pretty good.
DanDaDan and Ranma are also in the top 10 for Non-English as well. |

Yeah, it was sad not seeing it in the US rankings during launch week. Listen, I've been a Gundam fan for over 20 years now (and mecha fan longer than that), and I was extremely skeptical of this entry. Does it have have some rough edges in the character visuals and dialogue, and some questionable narrative choices at points, including a rather jarring epilogue? Sure. But taken as a whole, it is one heck of a ride with a well-rounded main character--female main character at that--and the cinematography of the mobile suit battles and presentation of UC technology is spectacular and frankly gave me chills a few times. (Moreover, it showcases how Gundam is much different than the giant robots of Transformers that mainstream Western audiences are used to.) Also, the music is very solid. It sounds right at home in the franchise.
My first impression upon finishing was that it's in the top 3 Gundam entries in the last decade, with only Thunderbolt and The Origin topping it. And I'm fairly certain I would put it in the top 10 Gundam entries of the last 24 years, or else just on the cusp at number 11. |
