Slow down Wit Studio, let Oda and Toe Animation finish. Give them 5 years or close to that.

Content that remake will cover is 25 years old; don't even dare to say "Original still holds up, remake is unnecessary." That's not up to you to decide.

That aside, One Piece isn't going anywhere, not in 5 years, not in 10 years, it is here to stay.

As someone who's looking forward to this remake, I'd appreciate it if you didn't tell other commenters they're not allowed to express their opinions. Frankly, that's not for YOU to decide.

I'm not saying that. I just don't want the remake to be airing when the original one is still going. I respect Toei Animation's work or One Piece regardless of the passing.

That said. Having no idea as to when the manga or anime will end, I think 5 years might be when the anime will and maybe 4 for the manga. You don't have to take my word for that as I'm just guessing.

Oh, and the One Piece anime is looking great in the Egghead Island Arc.

If this ends being a full adaptation, every chapter, how many episodes less roughly do you think it would be than the Toei version? Adding up all the filler episodes and combing episodes that only covered a single chapter.

I'm most curious about the long-term prospects of this project. WIT hasn't historically been the type of studio to stick with a giant multi-season anime for dozens of episodes, and indeed they've been more known in recent years for having a few high-profile projects handed off to other studios. I can't really see them sticking with this for the decade-plus minimum it would require to get remotely close to Toei's adaptation (assuming massively-increased pacing), not unless they create a whole division of the studio dedicated just to it. I'll admit that the visual style looks intriguing, and depending how it goes it'll probably be the best way to introduce new fans to the franchise, bit as someone who's been watching for approaching 20 years I don't know that I feel much of a need to tune in.

This is also my concern. I can’t think of a single anime aside from AoT that WIT animated longer than two seasons, and they only lasted for one more season with AoT.

Here's a spicy take but please hear me out... I want this remake to go the route of Urusei Yatsura and recast everyone. Most of the cast still sounds surprisingly okay, but if you give a listen to Franky, the man doesn't have the same bombast that he should. It's only a matter of time until the others (who've been doing this for decades) follow suit. I want the remake to be able to go on for at least one decade. To ensure that, new talent is probably necessary.

Why did they make Usopp light skin but still keep the lips?

That was not an opinion tho.

I got a feeling it might be just that but along the lines of streamlining the anime. Sticking to the manga and cutting the filler. We might not get stuff like Garp punching a whole island for 8-minutes but you don't have to sit through 1000+ episodes to get to that point.

If this thing moves at the same pace as David Production's JoJo's, they'll hit the 250-episode mark by the time they get to current manga happenings. Of course, David Pro spent a decade to cover the first six parts, so we'll see how much patience this project has.

I'm mixed on the voice casting. I get what everyone is saying about aging actors, but if the current cast wants to do it, I feel they should get first right of refusal.

I agree that current One Piece anime, perhaps the last five years at least, don't need a remake at all. But the early years look dated by current standards, perhaps stopping potential new fans to start the series. Not to mention it was pretty heavily censored back then.

The thing I really want to happen but will in all likelihood not get, is for Netflix to do what they did for the Shaman King remake: get as many of the 4Kids cast back as they can for the dub. (I'd argue most, not all, of reasons that version is reviled is 4Kids, the company's fault rather than the voice cast's.)
