It's completely nonsensical at times and the story isn't a though provoking political drama. It's just giant robots shooting, punching and using special attacks.
Enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. Probably because it's one of the few Super Robot anime that's been released in recent history. A pity it took this long to be licensed. |

Was one of the best shows of 2021, though S2 didn't live up to the high bar S1 set (and basically forces you to play the game, the first 89% of which is replaying the material covered by the 2 seasons).

Even with how busy it is, I really enjoyed season 1.
That said…ohhhh boy. Season 2, IMO, is way more overstuffed - and that’s with a slightly larger episode count, more episodes that skip the opening, and a handful that have a longer runtime. |

What makes this a hell of a year for Voltes V? Anyway, I thought Megaton Musashi was a kid's show, it was terrible. Not as bad as all the food metaphors in this review though.

The live-action show getting to air in Japan (with a version that trims some of the Filipino soap opera fat) and that doing well to let GMA-7 license and greenlight a live action Tosho Daimos. This while the live-action Voltron still hasn’t been cast even if it’s finally been greenlit, and is apparently changing all the names of the space explorers to avoid any comparisons to the Dreamworks show. As for this show, it’s basically the anti-Gen:Lock. Tons of plot points, tons of characters, but it loves giant robots punching each other, and the animation isn’t nearly as awkward. |

I've been playing through the game lately which I picked up during the steam summer sale. I think the game is a pretty fun time to me but yeah the story is a lot longer and more wild than I could have imagined. It's not the best but is fun at times.
Really to me it seems like if your interested in the game I would avoid the anime since it's all just the same story and cutscene wise some of them are long, one of which was around 30 minutes, so it ends up feeling like a show sometimes. |

The 30 minute cutscene was literally just the last episode of the anime with the credits cut out lmfao. |

I purchase and play nearly every Level-5 game that comes out in the states and have since 2013 or something to that affect. I watched the first episode of Megaton Musashi back in 2021 and thought "This is literally just Muv Luv but with more hot-blooded mecha camp. Hot dog!" and after playing the game, it definitely starts out that way and absolutely goes off the rails. I can't help but love every second of it. I love the changes Yamato has gone through since Megaton Musashi was first announced at Level-5 Vision 2016 to now, a hotblooded and dumb delinquent was the sort of protagonist this series needed.
Akihiro Hino has a tendency of taking a simple concept then stuffing it to the brim with just a whole lot of everything. There's Jojo stands/Persona/whatever you'd wanna call it in Inazuma Eleven, it's relevant to the soccer, do not ask how they get there, you will not get an answer. This causes a lot of the extra story beats to be a lot weaker or feel completely unnecessary/like tacked on afterthoughts, but the main highlight is how much fun you're having. You're never truly bored with any of these series, and my taste holds a lot of value in consuming media that's just plain ol' fun. I think anyone who's a fan of 70's mecha or anime akin to Gainax's mecha entries should give Megaton Musashi a shot. Somebody please get Teru some therapy. |
