Great hold for Frieren as it enters its regular timeslot. Totally deserves all the success it can get.

Frieren first episode tying with prime-time Doraemon is some feat, especially when most viewers raving about it enjoyed the 4-episode pilot instead of the traditional weekly broadcast NTV is providing.
If the show continues to feature in weekly rankings (albeit just for Kanto), good odds home video sales will do well and there'll be future adaptations planned to cash in on demand. |

Surprised to see Conan up so high when last week (iirc) it had the lowest average of the weekly votes. I'd assumed they were just in a filler arc, but maybe it's something else? I do vaguely remember fans being pretty upset with some of the reanimated episodes.... (Personally I'm a huge fan of the Conan manga, but I only watch the movies, not the TV anime -- no time for that.)
I'm also a bit curious about the ratings, in general, being so high. Has the streaming era not had as pronounced of an affect on TV viewership in Japan? Just to make sure I wasn't misremembering, I went back and looked up the ratings for some of my favorite, older favorites (like Trick, Hero, Seigi no Mikata, and a couple of the old Kudo Kankuro shows) and most of them were in the 10-20% average, give or take a few points. Which is about the lead I'd expect to see live action have over anime. I don't think Trick (literally one of my top 3 GOAT television series -- sorry, I just gotta plug it at every opportunity) ever went about 18%, and it was popular enough to get two additional seasons, a half dozen or so TV specials, four movies and an entire 3-season spin-off show in the early 2000s. Or is my main assumption here wrong, and did the top TV anime used to command a much greater percentage of household viewership? |

Oh dang, that's some good performances from new titles! Also, I didn't realize Firefighter Daigo was the latest show in the pre-Conan slot.
Earlier this year, I posted a couple links to old rankings on Twitter; I'll pull them up. 2013 16.9 Sazae-san 12.2 Chibi Maruko-chan 9.7 Detective Conan 2018 12.0 Sazae-san 8.5 Doraemon 8.4 Crayon Shin-chan And the top of this latest ranking: 8.4 Sazae-san 6.8 Detective Conan 5.6 Chibi Maruko-chan So yeah, live anime viewership has shown the declines all-around that you'd expect. |

In OP’s defense, this weeks episode was a recap special. |
