They made a planetarium movie based on Uchuu Kyoudai ("Space Brothers") as well. It was a prequel story when the brothers were out searching for UFOs. I saw a video rip of this film, and it was weird because the proportions were intended for a planetarium. Hard to imagine too many planetariums in the US carrying the Kitarou film. I'd think the Space Brothers movie would be more relatable.
Mana seems like a fixture in the modern incarnations of Kitarou. She won't be in the upcoming movie since it's about his origins, but I wouldn't be surprised if she shows up in the next TV series. I wonder how much the movie will have in common with the noitaminA television series Hakaba Kitarou, which is supposedly pretty close to Misuki's original presentation of Kitarou's origin story in the manga. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yl-ImRgwPgc (The terrific OP, "Mononoke Dance" by Denki Groove, does not appear in this clip.
