This is a relaxing, usually chill rom-com. Goshiki grew up a sheltered girl, and her reactions to daily life is cute. We also get a meta look into the life of a manga author. My one complaint is that the supernatural element feels tacked-on and unnecessary, at least so far.

I was expecting this to just be a normal (young?)adult rom-com, so I was surprised by the sci-fi element mixed in. Not sure if it was needed, but I guess it works in getting things moving.

Despite the twist, this is a very comfy, cute, and subdued romance...with legit progress, what with the female lead confessing her love by the 3rd episode!
I do think it's kind of funny that there's apparently an autonomous island in Japan with telepathic mutants and nobody seems to care about it.

Normally "what is this strange feeling?" would last us half a season, but here we get an immediate follow up of "oh! I'm in love! How exciting!" It's very much Goshiki though - smart and capable but also full of child like wonder at everything. Poor Ichiro left in a complete daze at the abruptness of it, which is entirely understandable - while they're very sweet together and he's been unfailingly kind and considerate, I'm not sure they've entirely earned that confession at this point.
Machi is pretty much my favourite thing. She's great.

I love how Shiori thought she was in a Heisei romance where it takes 10 volumes to get together but it turns out she was in a Reiwa romance where they get together by episode 4. The God of Shojo manga works in mysterious ways.
Although I think that's the first time I've seen a character talk like they're about to reject someone (even at the point of hurting themselves) before pulling a 180 and confessing.

He just wanted to be up front about all his anxieties, and Ichiro is a guy with a lot of those. And we gotta give the guy some credit for sticking to his guns on that despite being in severe pain. Probably did risk a death spiral, as seeing Ichiro in pain only further upsets Shiori, which could trigger further pact retribution.

It really bugged me how they reacted to the rain. Why would you just throw the towel in and stay home because of some rain? So it’s not a good day for the Zoo, how about the aquarium, the planetarium, the natural history museum!?! Show a little spark of imagination. Sheesh
But, yeah, the whole tarot card/fortune telling thing was sweet and charming.

Getting wet is a pretty serious issue in anime-land. It inevitably leads to a high temperature and being bedridden for several days.

Shiori being so formal and sincere in her interactions with the family and in romance is so adorable.

I can't remember - have they re-arranged chapters from the manga? ISTR her mother's visit coming a bit earlier. (And they've skipped considerable material on the origin of the Star People.)
Will the series end with the confrontation between mother and daughter? I've been theorizing that it will end with the removal of the curse.

Shiori revealing she's dating someone and Ichiro introducing himself to her mom over the phone was priceless.
Honestly I keep forgetting about the pact until the effects hit. I guess it would be one thing if it was harmless but the fact that they can't have a proper couple fight without it hurting Ichiro is probably ample reason to get rid of it. But hey, they got through their first couple fight!

I figure they're probably aiming for the end of vol 3, while this episode was basically the end of 2/start of 3 (if I remember correctly). Which is stinger removal + a couple of follow on chapters re-establishing the relationship status & goals now "remove the pact" has been ticked off.. So that's about on target pacing-wise. Vols 1 & 2 in the first 8 episodes, vol 3 in the last 4.
I think the family visit always happened here? iirc the sequence in the manga was also Christmas->Hot Spring->Mother turns up as they get home. No doubt there's some cut content (or slimmed down content), but I don't think any major beats have been missed or rearranged.

Agree with most above. This didn’t need the stinger or the other odd magical stuff. It really doesn’t even fit the tone of the show at this point other than to yank it off into a different direction.
It’s a lovely light, and for me at least, nicely slow love story where two emotional youth figure it out as they go without rushing to the payoff or unnecessary drama. So far anyway.

Unknown, probably since the phonecall Shiori ignored while in the gift shop? They look pretty cold.
