EP. REVIEW: Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? IV

Hestia is acknowledging that the Greek and Roman pantheons are incredibly similar and that in the world of DanMachi, Greco-Roman deities represent both at once. Since there are some distinct similarities between the Norse and Greco-Roman pantheons, this is important to lay out, although we could argue that most pantheistic religions all share some similar gods simply based on basic human needs or professions.

More precisely, syncretism was an official practice of the Romans, and interpretatio graeca and interpretatio romana were deliberately employed. It's not just similarities or something that we as moderns "could argue," but a deliberate interpretive technique extensively explained and theorized by Pliny the Elder, Tacitus, and many others.

Speaking of mythology, it's a neat bit of it when Hestia mentions to Bell that she's also sometimes known as Vesta and the symbolism of that name. “Vesta” is the Roman name for the goddess of the hearth (her priestesses were the Vestal Virgins), so essentially Hestia is acknowledging that the Greek and Roman pantheons are incredibly similar and that in the world of DanMachi, Greco-Roman deities represent both at once.

The bit at the end of the Recap ep threw me off as to wether that was a preview of things about to happen, or an arc I missed watching...

Also want to take this opportunity to do a bit of promoting for the mobile game. This year's epic anniversary story features the Knights of Fianna, the order of prum knights from antiquity that Finn is referring to when he talks about the restoration of the prum race. It's an original story written for the game, but it can probably be considered canon backstory and makes some neat connections to things which appeared innocuously in animated content (like Finn's special move, as seen in the last episode of Sword Oratoria). Good stuff.

It hurts me to read this cos I cant play it due to it not being available in my country. Sure I can watch YT videos on it but IMO there's no replacing the feeling of being able to actually play it

Last year the mobile game's anniversary event focused on the Vesta identity. Had nothing to do with Rome, though. spoiler[They go to another city outside of Orarto called Olympia where the Prometheus familia rules. Hestia is tasked with purifying the flame Prometheus brought down from the heavens as the human world had been corrupting it. But to purify it Hestia has to sacrifice herself and she becomes Vesta to cut off her feelings and de-power her familia so they can't stop her.]
