It's nice to hear a more somber and confident Bell from Matsuoka so far; it helps sell Bell's growth.

Hestia is acknowledging that the Greek and Roman pantheons are incredibly similar and that in the world of DanMachi, Greco-Roman deities represent both at once. Since there are some distinct similarities between the Norse and Greco-Roman pantheons, this is important to lay out, although we could argue that most pantheistic religions all share some similar gods simply based on basic human needs or professions.

More precisely, syncretism was an official practice of the Romans, and interpretatio graeca and interpretatio romana were deliberately employed. It's not just similarities or something that we as moderns "could argue," but a deliberate interpretive technique extensively explained and theorized by Pliny the Elder, Tacitus, and many others.

Yes, thank you. I'm never sure how much depth to go into and I always seem to err on the wrong side of whatever I decide. Confused That's not snark; I'm always happy when someone picks up where I left off!

Speaking of mythology, it's a neat bit of it when Hestia mentions to Bell that she's also sometimes known as Vesta and the symbolism of that name. “Vesta” is the Roman name for the goddess of the hearth (her priestesses were the Vestal Virgins), so essentially Hestia is acknowledging that the Greek and Roman pantheons are incredibly similar and that in the world of DanMachi, Greco-Roman deities represent both at once.

Last year the mobile game's anniversary event focused on the Vesta identity. Had nothing to do with Rome, though. spoiler[They go to another city outside of Orarto called Olympia where the Prometheus familia rules. Hestia is tasked with purifying the flame Prometheus brought down from the heavens as the human world had been corrupting it. But to purify it Hestia has to sacrifice herself and she becomes Vesta to cut off her feelings and de-power her familia so they can't stop her.]

It's nice to see Bell and the gang again and seeing all these Familia's come together to quest into the dungeon.

I'm not this far in the LN yet but if these were the clothing Yasuda-sensei designed, I'm impressed. They have a kind of a subtle flair, which looks different to show the story has reached a new turning point but still how they normally look. They're just cool.

In answer to the question-Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? Shit no, if you happen to be a horny old bastard who wants to get laid anyway possible! LOL But seriously it's really nice to have this show back after a few years absence.

So, is this picking up directly from S3, or do I need to watch Arrow of Orion to be caught up?

The bit at the end of the Recap ep threw me off as to wether that was a preview of things about to happen, or an arc I missed watching...

Arrow of orion isn't canon, although it's brought up in the mobile game. But, no. You don't need to watch the movie

I have read the novels this season will cover, so I can confirm that those scenes are definitely a preview of some fun events to come. (I believe they're taken from one of the trailers for this season?)

And to elaborate a little more on Arrow of Orion, while it isn't canon for the novel or anime, it is an integral part of the mobile game. (It formed a crucial part of the backstory for last year's anniversary event, for instance.)

Also want to take this opportunity to do a bit of promoting for the mobile game. This year's epic anniversary story features the Knights of Fianna, the order of prum knights from antiquity that Finn is referring to when he talks about the restoration of the prum race. It's an original story written for the game, but it can probably be considered canon backstory and makes some neat connections to things which appeared innocuously in animated content (like Finn's special move, as seen in the last episode of Sword Oratoria). Good stuff.

It hurts me to read this cos I cant play it due to it not being available in my country. Sure I can watch YT videos on it but IMO there's no replacing the feeling of being able to actually play it

A set up episode, but quite a good one at that. Great to have Danmachi back =)

That was quite the foreboding scene to end the episode on though. Can't wait to see where that leads to Smile

I'm sure all mobile players ears pricked up when they heard Vesta mentioned Laughing

Cassandra prophesized the end of the Apollo familia in the second season, so she's definitely someone people should be listening to. Though like the myth, no one does (except Bell I believe).

I watched some of those videos when researching the article I wrote a couple of years ago about Memoria Freese, and frankly, you're not missing anything by just watching those videos. The game play aspect is actually somewhat of a nuisance when the story is being told, as the mechanics sometimes get forced in through cheesy means.
