Last rumor was irreconcilable differences between Kojima and the director made the project stall out.

I would not be surprised if something similar happened here.

Kojima has nothing to do with whatever is done to the Metal Gear franchise these days, though.

Whatever happened to the TETRIS movie (trilogy) or the Minecraft movie? They talked big about both of those and we still haven't seen anything

The Tetris movie completed filming and is out in March on Apple+, which is probably why you didn't know that.

lol I had no idea that one existed, true. But I was referring to the one announced in 2014 and said to be 3-movie sci-fi epic in 2016 and got like 80 million in funding or whatever. I'm guessing that one's not happening anymore

Will they cast Norman Reedus though? For some reason these video game adaptions never cast the actor or actress the character is modeled after.

I haven’t heard of many cases of what you’re alluding to.

Interesting. Kojima has mentioned how game assets and engines are at a point where they could be used in feature films, and virtual filmmaking has been a thing for some time now. So they could save significant money by reusing assets and environments built for games in live-action Fx. Going with a smaller outfit also allows creative control. I'm in!

Wut? Kojima has nothing to do with MGS anymore. That is Konami's ball game now. And the only thing keeping it from happening is that a big Hollywood studio hasn't yet greenlit Jordan Vogt-Roberts' Oscar Isaac led adaptation. They apparently can't settle on a script as the studio is reluctant to give it a budget necessary to adapt MGS1, but Kojima has no involvement outside of Roberts personally talking to him for feedback as a friendly endeavour and neither one is under any obligation to each other. MGS is stalled primarily because of studio budgeting considerations. They find funding a big budget video game adaptation risky, as past precedent hasn't been kind to the genre.

I'd recommend that Vogt compromise and adapt the first Metal Gear game instead while incorporating aspects of the other sequels plot points and characters in it early. Doable at a lower budget and plenty of room to add things in. If it is a hit, the sequels will get better budgets.

This sounds like a tremendously bad idea. And that's coming from somebody who really likes Death Stranding. I think Death Stranding had a lot of good unique ideas, and probably the best acting I've ever seen in any video game, but ultimately the story still didn't make any sense... I don't know how you could take that and turn it into a coherent film.

The story made sense, but it has the same issues as other high brow films like Interstellar and TENET though, in that it deals with very complicated material and out-there ideas. So long as you buy into the wacky concepts, the story beats check out. Most people will have a hard time swallowing the scenario, let alone following along.
