From what I've heard it has the typical Netflix problem of the story lacking enough depth, the pacing being all over the place (why does Netflix keep insisting on 6 episodes?) and the CG quality being...okay-ish?

I wanted to give this a chance because I'm interested in getting into the Tekken franchise, but it seems like the only reason to watch it is Xiayou and Nina's fight.

I really didn't have much expectation from this storywise, since this is based on a fighting game; all I wanted to watch was some good-ass Tekken fight scenes.

Then we finally got to the tournament and...let's just say I paused midway episode 4 (after Jin and Leroy's fight) and watched Arslan Ash and Joka's VSFX championship match on YT instead. Just to feel some thrill. I will still continue to check out the other good ones you mentioned (mostly Xiaoyu), though.

And yes, the angular shadows hugely distract me.

Reminds me of what happened with S2 of B The Beginning, which only lasted for 6 episodes and ended on a cliffhanger without resolving a good portion of the new plot threads brought up. The director/writer said they were only given that many episodes to play with, no mention of when a Part 2 was coming.

I watched 'cause I was bored and it was new, at least. It was.... eh, adequate to pass the time, I guess. Nicky and Steve covered the most relevant points, so I'll only say the animators seemed to have a thing for Jin's bare heels. Several shots of those.

The animation quality for this was all over the place.

Some scenes clearly needed more time in the non-cgi fire filter oven.
They also really seemed pressed to re-use as much as the could but then just speed it up by 10% each time...

I mean it's just barely above Berserk(2016) levels of CG at times.

I don't like that they are already having Jin as the main hero. It would be like making a Fatal Fury anime and having Rock Howard as the main character instead having Terry.

I think Xiaoyu had my favorite fights overall since she's really different compared to some of the more brute force styles and her technique comes off despite the floaty-ness of the animation. Even Heihachi gives her some credit, which is super rare for him.

I totally agree! Xiaoyu, from the very start of the game series even, has been one of those characters that has various set of moves. Netflix was able to really capture Xiaoyu as a character, but I hoped for the other characters too Sad

A lot feels like a passing note but understandable with the six episodes that they have allotted for this. Lastly, I might be overanalyzing it, but it somehow reminds me of the Tekken 6 Bloodline Arcade Mode, where you pick a character as you progress on the arcade mode (which has about 6 stages as well), you'll get to know more about your character's background story. So this is like a Jin-focused arcade mode.

Let's not forget about the extra round as well at the end. lol.

To be fair there was a Tekken OVA in the 90’s. They aren’t related to one another but still.
