I literally don't think that I've seen this show since it originally aired 44 years ago. It's hard to believe that this show came out when I was 8 years old!

The Godzilla cartoon was what introduced me to the Godzilla franchise when it air during Cartoon Network as they did reruns of their old shows from the 70s and 80s.

Glad I can watch it legally on YouTube.

I'm amazed Toho's actually doing this. If I remember, they did this in conjunction with Hanna-Barbera. Now,a lot of people are going to ask this question. Why did Toho consent to have an American company turn one of their most iconic characters into just another Saturday morning cartoon hero? While I don't really have an answer to that, what I do know is I also watched this and looking back now,the show's simply goofy and cheesy. Not that that's a bad thing. But,why they did it,I don't know.
I don't know if this ever reached Japan or how Toho really felt about this, but for most people including myself,I think that Toho's doing this probably means they're a little iffy on this version. It's been a long time since this version's been seen and for the most part,I've got the feeling that Toho want to keep this version in the closet,if you know what I mean.

Hanna Barbara’s Best Scooby Doo Knockoff, with Adults and a pre teen and Godzilla as Scooby and Godzooky as Scooby Dumb! I Love the intro song.

Man, I remember when I first watched this show, back when Cartoon Network mostly ran reruns of old Hanna-Barbera cartoons. That intro started out so epically, announcing the arrival of Godzilla with a thundering chorus booming his name…only to turn into cartoon pratfall music as that same chorus sweetly sings “and Godzooooky”. Not even a final “Godzillaaaaa” at the end could save it after that.

The cartoon itself isn’t that much better, just a bunch of generic adults and Scrappy-Doo clone Godzooky solving mysteries involving giant monsters that always fight with Godzilla near the end. Just another disposable cartoon trying to mimic the Scooby-Doo formula.

Pretty nearly the same for me. It was a staple of my Saturday mornings back when I was in elementary school.

Wow. I never looked at the series that way at the time (and I was also a die-hard follower of Scooby-Doo at the time), but looking back, I can absolutely see the comparison.

Most of the episodes I grew up with from this show were from the second season, so I look forward to seeing these episodes for the first time in probably almost 20 years!

Now if only we could get a remastered Blu-ray release for the whole series...

The cartoon was cashing in on the popularity of the earlier movies among kids which were usually airing on TV in the afternoon just a few years earlier. Godzilla was the biggest Japanese entertainment export before anime.
