I spent the better part of my weekend with this one, and yeah, it's a blast. It basically feels like 8-bit, top-down Dynasty Warriors (PS2-era DW, at that), which is pretty much the highest praise available in the undercrowded tactical action genre.

My biggest complaint: if you game over on a stage, you can retry, but it starts you after the upgrade screen, so you're unable to buy those last few stat increases you might need to easily clear a stage you're struggling with. Missions take around half-an-hour on Normal, so having to quit out and retry really hurts. I made it to the end of Mission 10 before I truly appreciated the inclusion of Easy Mode.

It is easy enough to farm gold as you replay stages, and stages you have previously cleared will often offer hints on how to locate a hidden cart, so there's solid replay value. Once you've unlocked a move-set, it's yours forever, and the only gold sinks become castle upgrades and alms (which do... something?). So there's probably no need to skimp on in-stage upgrades once you've found a setup you like.

Also, the official site is a masterpiece.
