Not surprised that Platinum End was the most abandoned. When you see the names OBATA Takeshi and OHBA Tsugumi, you think Death Note, but Platinum End never even came close to expectations based on the creators' reputations.

Komi Can't Communicate was 10th-highest rated, yet 9th-most abandoned? I thought it was one of the funniest shows last season, but I guess many people disagree.

There's a lot of overlap between most-watched and most-abandoned series. Do abandoned series also count as watched?

Can confirm World Trigger 3 and Kingdom 3 were both Top 5 anime of 2021. Go watch them

Sad to see Fena so abandoned, but I can see why a majority of people just gave up on it especially once they found out about the ending

The "nobody watches" part came true. Not so much the "best show, (although some people certainly did like it, a whopping 20 people voted it 4 stars+).

When it comes to "least watched" I think we are seeing the result of so many new and varied shows coming out each season (all reasonably good) that shows with multiple seasons of nearly the same thing aren't interesting anymore and so people leave off watching. And if a long running show stumbles (MHA), that just shunts viewers away harder...

I need to start watching Ranking of Kings. I really like articles like this one; I commend ANN.

I dropped it half way through episode 1 because of how generic the writing looked.

I wish more people would give Pretty Cure and PriMagi a chance. Girls’ entertainment can’t catch a break these days.

I think when it comes to long-running shows, there is just less motivation/incentive to vote for them or always vote for them. Series like One piece, Dragon ball, etc. are obviously popular, so there's no real need to beat your chests about them, except during major moments or milestones.

Anyway, interesting highlights:

Komi can't communicate was in best & highest-rated, and most-watched, and most abandoned

Heike story (best & highest-rated) wasn't even listed as a gem, which is just hilarious to me (not hating on the show)

Muteking, Build divide, and Shikizakura in both worst-rated and least-watched. Did the few who watched these shows just really dislike them?

Whoever wrote and directed Mushoku Tensei are a bunch of geniuses cos I admit I am one of the several people who initially despised the first episodes but ended up wanting more

Mushoku Tensei is the kind of series that when you hear about it you say: "Yeah, no way this works", but the truth is that it surprisingly does.

As for Kingdom and World Trigger, the problem with both of them is that they are continuations stemming from a very bad starting line. Kingdom's first season is a full-blown bad CGI-fest, and World Trigger began as an extremely generic WSJ series with an equally extremely low-budget adaptation. If someone would like to be involved with them now, they would have to start from there, and it's completely understandable how it's putting people off.

All right, Muv-Luv Alternative improving its score from cumulative 3rd worst in the final weekly streaming ratings to 10th worst in the giant Fall 2021 poll. A few more seasons and it’ll work its way up to mediocre.

TBH, the best thing that could happen to this series is to delay its next cour from Fall 2022 to Winter 2023. It’s got no business being in what is traditionally the most competitive season, and would be well-served by relegating down to the B-league of winter anime. As it stands, I don’t imagine ANN readers would vote for it again in weekly reviews: the curious have been driven away by its confusing adaptation, and the existing fanbase thinks it looks cheap.

I was in the same boat. As a general rule, I dislike isekais but to my surprise MT is really an incredibly deep character study in isekai clothing. I caved in and read the books and it's one hell of a ride. Every detail is important, and even the side charachters get more development than the MCs in most shows.

Also, while I've only read the officially translated LNs, the general consensus from people who finished it is that it's one of the rare series to not shit the bed at the end, and that it comes to a very satisfying conclusion

No one apparently can appreciate CGDCT/SOL any more either, as Let's Make a Mug Too Season 2 was ignored, and Puraore! Pride of Orange was condemned before the first episode aired.

Non cookie-cutter rom-com My Senpai is Annoying was also hurt by negativity before the first episode aired, but those who watched it seemed to enjoy it based on reader comments. Season 2 (if it happens) will be very welcome.

Certainly the most hyped show prior to being introduced, but quite a few of us wondered what all the fuss was about.

The aquatope on white sand of course was ranked 4 places too low by readers.

Good thing I can be happy with liking a niche within a niche of popular culture.
