Open world Sonic? Nice. Yet I got some BotW vibes as well.

Ah, I see everyone has entered the hopeful anticipation stage of the Sonic Cycle.

At least classic sonic hasn't shown up at all. Here's hoping the actual game is good.

This is the first game post Ken Pontac and Warren Graff game, so I wonder if they will still do the modern ironic humour or not. Personily I would have liked for Shiro Maekawa to have returned as writer. In terms of playable characters, being open world could have you switch between them for different tasks, ie reach high places as Tails and dig as Knuckles. But they may just have you play as Sonic, even though the novelty of that ran out after Generations.

I also felt some BotW vibes from the trailer, I'm not a big fan of a Sonic game with realistic looking backgrounds, though the series has experimented with that style in Adventure (which was realistic for the time) and 2006 (with disastrous consequences). On the postive side, Ian Flynn is writing the game which is cool. On the "negative" side, I was surprised that SEGA included the Switch as a platform, at least from the trailer it seems like it has some complex graphics and I don't think the Switch can handle it without some serious drawbacks, though perhaps Sega knows that Sonic sells well on Nintendo and cannot skip the platform.

Not a lot of gameplay, which is concerning, but the environments look beautiful and the Open World gives me Adventure vibes.
Ian Flynn being involved in writing it means this might be the best Sonic game story in years.
Flynn does a good job of writing humor, and in-character humor of the Sonic cast. |
