This is a gloomy day for gamers indeed
NES was the first gaming console that I was introduced to, and it became the only way for me to spend time with family during my childhood days... It breaks my heart that Uemura has left the world. May he rest in peace.
(I just happen to pass by the gaming store and saw the NES Classic Edition yesterday too. )

I have so many happy memories with these consoles. I remember the year I got a SNES for Christmas, I remember playing the NES with my cousins. Sad day.

I never owned either console myself, but I spent probably hundreds of hours on our neighbors' SNES. Rest in peace to a true legend.

I grew up with a Famiclone that was modeled after the original Family Computer so in a way I owe Mr. Uemura a lot for the countless hours I spent playing classic games like Super Mario Bros., Tennis, Pinball and Battle City. May he rest in peace

As someone who used to owned a SNES in past childhood, it's indeed very sad to hear the creator of SNES to have passed away. Thank you for shaping up my childhood when it comes to video game (I wouldn't be where I am today if it wasn't for the SNES). RIP Uemura-sempai.

Get this guy a posthumous Order of the Rising Sun or something (I think that's the Japanese civilian high-honor medal). He definitely put Japanese technology and culture on the map for a lot of people in my generation. Not to mention console gaming in general.

I hope he knew just how many childhoods he affected with his designs and creations. Not many can say they designed something that brought that much joy to so many people over decades of years. RIP.
