The biggest issue I have with the new Danmachi manga is that Welf looks unsettlingly like Link and that messes with me a lot.

I second that. This is what has been missing from the post original TV series franchise.

The PMMM TV series ended with the introduction of the Wraiths and the enigmatic scene from the end of credits of Homura fighting the Wraiths in a much talked about way. These are things that the Movie: Rebellion never talked about. But it is where Rebellion should have been.

So the reviews of the manga have me sold already.

Why doesn't this article show up on the main page "by date" listing when filters are set to "All"? Isn't that what "All" means. If I hadn't seen it in the featured scroller at the top I would have never known it existed.

i assume the review for madoka only covers the first volume? i remember it gets very interesting as the plot progresses.

(Reborn as a Barrier Master)
Quote:
Despite the fact that Linus goes on several dangerous quests over the course of the volume, there isn't much urgency to the story. It's certainly more action-adventure than slice-of-life, but it's got the sensibility of the latter to it.
...
He's paired with Eryl, his benefactress' niece, and although she's older than him, there's a real sense that she might be getting set up as Linus' love interest. Given that before the volume ends Linus is adopted by the family, making Eryl equal in status (and his cousin, but whatever), this seems increasingly plausible.
...
This isn't an entirely new take on isekai or fantasy in general, but it really is easy to read, and if you're just looking for basic fantasy comfort food (where the isekai is at a minimum, as it seems to be thus far), you could certainly do worse than this.

This...might...perhaps...be a liiitle misleading.Confused (WARNING DO NOT LOOK if you don't want volume 2 plot points spoiled. But if you're in it for slice-of-life, you may WANT to...) spoiler[Let's just say the first sentence in the last paragraph gets it right. In the next volume, everyone in the castle and new family he got to know gets killed. Every named character, Eryl included. Every unnamed character. Mercilessly. Brutally. Even the children.

THEN starts the main story, from half-way volume 2 onwards. You can read this first volume as a backstory of how he became a barrier master. These events aren't even referenced much later. Just in case someone was wondering, he does get revenge on the ones behind the coup, almost immediately...]

Well, it's a well-laid one! This is, of course, part of the danger of the Guide - we only cover one volume.

Much as I love the Madoka franchise, the spinoff manga are a mixed bag at best. The only thing I even remember about Wraith Arc is that it's a convoluted explanation for spoiler[why Kyubey decides to believe Homura's story about Madoka, setting off Rebellion,] which barely even needed explained in the first place. Perhaps the inevitable fate of an interquel.

"The Different Story" (yes, that's the title) is a much better one to start with, since it has actual relevant character development and backstory left out of the anime.

The best thing about Frieren? It's published weekly. You'd never guess by the contents or page count.Smile

That also means that if Viz can't keep up the release rate of the volumes, they'll just keep slipping further behind...

...

Light novel guide, not featured, Orc Eroica Vol. 1, by Mushoku Tensei author. Just in case anyone confuses the two orc series, this one, and the one featured here...
