Really looking forward to this one. Hoping it fills that void now that Nagatoro Saturday is no longer a thing

The landlord scene overstayed its welcome by about 5 minutes, I'd say...
It's really hard not to watch this and compare it to TDIAPT (esp. since S2 of the latter is coming up soon---finally). So far, I think TDIAPT did a better job of introducing the reverse-isekai motivation/mechanic, but as you say, surely we'll get more backstory going forward.

Honestly I'd forgotten The Devil is a Part Timer existed until the 2nd season was announced and I'm a big fan of this manga so that tells me that the vibes aren't really that similar in the long run. This is very much a Gabriel Dropout style comedy series. Each chapter is its own premise usually and, though the first episode might not be a good show of it, A LOT of the misfortune Jahy faces is brought about by her own pride and hubris and lies she tells to hang on to her pride.
The story does loosely follow the "Collect The Mana Crystals" plot thread, but in a very meandering way, and worry not people who think the 2 supporting characters weren't the best there are 4-6 more upcoming most of whom are fellow demons who are more interesting.
Regardless there will surely be many more great Jahy expressions in future episodes I look forward to.

I thought people still like Lucky Star. Well, they liked it enough to reissue it on blu-ray. It's not a bad first episode. Looking forward to the rest of Jahy's antics!

The first episode shuffled things around a bit from the manga but I think that was to introduce both sisters in the same episode and we'll get to meet Druj, Jahy's underling, next week (although Druj technically did appear in the first episode for a couple of frames: she's seen through the window in the back seat when Jahy's running next to the limousine).
I hope the second episode also adapts the chapter with Jahy helping the baby bird.

It's actually really helpful to know that things got shuffled around: I'm looking forward to Jahy getting some more development. Also, like... something more substantial than bean sprouts. Poor girl deserves a break after all she's been through!

I liked the first episode, but the only thing that bothered me is that the landlord isn't letting Jahy stay in the apartment for free. I mean, Jahy is already working under the landlord's sister for a paltry salary (and it doesn't seem like Jahy has other co-workers in the store). I guess if they did that, you won't have the "pay your rents" jokes going on

I'm pretty sure the Landlord lady can't afford to let Jahy stay for free as it's already one of the cheapest places to stay in the area.

Before watching I kind of felt partial to what I could see of the style, felt a bit let down by looking at the review scores first, but then were more happy with how the first episode was. Maybe it might not blow away with things, and the preferably it would improve, but I am certainly interested in this one.
Jahy does seem a bit remeniscent of Satania and maybe a bit of Mao-chan-sensei.

Jahy being horribly lost in a towering tree not 5 minutes from her place was the funniest gag.

I'd say Druj should have been introduced in the first episode (beyond her blink and you'll miss it cameo in the limo) since the dynamic between the two characters is funnier than the dynamic between Jahy and the sisters but, on the other hand, Jahy's situation with "Store Owner" and "Landlady" was necessary backstory to illustrate the contrast between her miserable life on Earth and the opulence Druj enjoys.
I presume we'll meet shapeshifter Salwa in the next episode.

Please watch the entire episode before writing reviews (yes, this is a pet peeve of mine). There are more than three minutes of delightfully different content after the ED sequence this week!

Those last three minutes were a funny extra - Space Pirate Jahy dodging Space Pirate Landlady who wants late rent on a spaceship - but they didn't have a whole lot to do with the show.
Anyway, back to the show. I really wonder if Druj is all that ignorant about what's going on. Or if she ever was. Things are still funny either way.
Looking forward to the Magical Girl showing up eventually.

I think the Space Pirate segment was original to the anime. I don't remember it at all from the manga. I wonder if it's a loose parody of Bodacious Space Pirates (but with a touch of the Galaxy Police from the Tenchi Muyo! multiverse)?
My favourite gag in this episode was Druj's volatile aura that emanated whenever "Store Manager" treated Jahy like an underling.

I gotta agree, Jahy as been slowly but steadily getting better every episode. Hope it keep the momentum going.
