I almost laughed at "strong friendship between Prushka and Riko" because for me it was the absolute worst part of the movie along with a weak attempt to develop Prushka's character in one giant one giant flashback in the end. Sorry, I don't buy "cutesy character with stock moeblob personality got tortured, please cry!" for second time. I gave Mitty pass only because loli torture came in package with interesting dilemma regarding eutanasia, while Prushka was nothing, but a Loli Ex Machina plot device.

Totally agree that the series should stop to pander to mc trying to keep her hands clean and force her to make an actual choice that will go against her morale. It was annoying how every other cliffhanger resulted into nothing, Reg got his super power for free, Riko got her White Whistle by pure luck, I didn't feel any satisfaction when they defeated Bondrewd because it was too contrived. Not to mention, he is far better character than a pair of cardboards.

Anyways, Made in Abyss continues to be the "Top Anime I Can't Recommend to Anyone"

That's not entirely true. Though I get you are going for. You just have to know who you are talking to.

Personally, I am glad you spot lighted this movie. I had forgotten about it, amid all this Covid stuff. Now is the time to watch it. Thanks.

Where can one watch this film? I don't want to look at this article out of fear of spoilers. Anyone willing to help me out?

As a huge fan of the TV series, I was not diappointed in the movie at all. It had another emotional gut punch for me, but just like the show, there was something positive to take away from the tragedy. The material is definitely not nihilistic (yet). Can't wait for Season 2.

For europeans, try wakanim. I don't know if they have it for all their areas, but it's available for streaming here in Sweden at least. They have the compilation movies as well.

Thank you for watching this (and completely spoiling it) so I didn’t have to! I have sooo many questions, though! So White Whistles are made of people—was Riko’s mom’s White Whistle made out of Riko’s dad? OK, that probably hasn’t been addressed in the manga (yet?), so I’ll ask movie specific questions—Bondrewd’s plan for Prushka was what now? Was her becoming a White Whistle not what he planned? Also, his gimmick is a rip-off of Voldemort’s, except with even more child torture, right?

No, Ozen said that Riko was already a White Whistle (and thus had a White Whistle) when she met Riko's dad. He was a member of a team of Black Whistles that was assigned to her, and they fell in love while on a mission.

Bondrewd has a bunch of gimmicks and plans, but these are the two main things he has going on:

First, he can harvest the brains and organs of humans in order to create "Cartridges". (He typically uses children, because their brains and organs are smaller than those of adults, and thus capable of being made into comparatively more compact Cartridges.) When Bondrewd ascends in the Abyss, the Curse is diverted to the soul of the person who was made into the Cartridge, instead of him.

It is implied that Cartridges have a very short shelf life (you can't keep a person alive for very long when they are basically just a pile of organs in a suitcase) so he needs more and more Cartridges, and thus more and more children.

Why is he doing this? Well, Bondrewd wants to receive a Blessing of the Abyss instead of a Curse, so he's ascending over and over again. My understanding is that he was raising Prushka in a way that he believed would give him the best chance of being Blessed when he eventually turns her into a Cartridge.

Bondrewd's second gimmick is that he has an artifact called "Zoaholic" that allows him to spread his soul/consciousness into other bodies. Conveniently for him, he has a small cadre of loyal Black Whistles, all of whom act as receptacles for a portion of his consciousness. When his "main" body (the one that still houses the bulk of his soul) dies, all of the consciousness floods from that body into one of his "spares".

Is stream in good quality? I don't want to spend 20 bucks and it has low resolution.

Another thing I would add is the line he said about preparing for next 2000 years cycle, many people overlook that initially but many things in the series point out about something happening to Abyss rather soon.

I'm curious about the "Marulk's Everyday" shorts. My understanding is that there are four of them, yet the stream only has two?

I can't comment about the streaming quality but I watched the japanese bluray and it was just as good, video and audio wise as you'd imagine.
