i heard from filmgoers who had to see this movie ASAP it's the greatest visual (looks) production in the history of this medium and an advancement in animating in general. Which is crazy given the source material its attached to won't attract too much attention from the mainstream arthouse press.

I really want to see this movie, I'm still disappointed that I wasn't able to see it this past May, because of Covid shutting everything down.

I'm a huge Type-Moon and Ufotable and stan but even I think some of this might just be fanwank. Given, I'd love for this to be true simply because Ufotable visibly LOVES Fate and I want this movie to be as great as it can but Fate tends to attract a lot of very passionate opinions.
As for the recognition, I honestly think it's a shame that professional film journalism ignores any japanese animation not made by grouchy animeman Miyazaki. But that's just how things are.

As someone who saw the film last weekend, it's pretty crazy. The majority of the films visuals are your typical, highly polished Ufotable art which is pretty much there when it comes to consistent high quality character art and backgrounds/ integrated CG/effects. Where this film really kicks it into high gear is the Rider vs Saber battle which is almost 6 straight minutes which is truly awesome. The scene just kept going and going with top notch detailed animation and choreography. When the scene finally ended I turned to my gf and jsut grabbed her shoulder and nodded. While I'm not going to say anything too crazy after a single viewing (im hyped to see it in 4D now) It definitely stacks up pretty high (immediately in my brain) as one of the best "anime fights" I can think of. Last year Herc vs Salter was way up there and probably the best fight of the year, this one completely blows it out of the water.

i find it believable though. Despite what ufotable allegedly does to finance their products, they've really been a notable visual powerhouse for a while now

How did the movie handle Shiro vs Kirie? I've been waiting years to see that fight.

I don't know what quite to say on this one..... It seems big fans of the VN are split on this one but some of the posts dissapointed seem like they were expecting things that are a bit unreasonable for an adaptation like this. I personally liked the way it was handled but it wasn't very crazy or over the top. You got some good animation and frames of big impact but not a ton of actual frames compared to to previous sequences like rider vs saber or Rin vs Sakura.

What is the 4th dimension? Smells? Does it use 3d glasses? I always found 3d films take me out of the experience.

If the film has a 3D version, then the 4D experience will require them, but there are 4D films without. 4D has seats that move and vibrate with what's going on in the film. There are even some water features, but it won't soak you. Some visual features include lights and smoke. Can't remember if there are smells.
Saw Weathering With You in 4D and it didn't require glasses since it's not in 3D. Wasn't as much water as I was expecting. But I guess it would be too much to soak the audience. lol
