This is not really surprising. Now is a good time as any other to binge series. I generally mostly order online anyway regardless of whether stores are closed or not, though, so this pandemic hasn't really affected me much.

Interestingly, the Western comic book industry has been suffering during the pandemic.

Comic book fans tend to flock to local comic book shops, most of which aren't really set up for online sales.

Comic books are set up kinda weird. Every level of the American comic industry pretty much relies on the retailer system and that retailer systems been unhealthy and broken for ages and always on the verge of waiting for that last straw to break the camel's back. Turns out it ended up being coronavirus. It's a really convoluted and to explain would take an essay, but basically comic shops were the single point of failure for the entire industry, so when they got shut down, the entire industry got shut down with them. Manga is sold and treated no different than regular books, so they didn't have any of those problems.
