It was a nice chapter! ^^ The random panel with Kyuubi did surprise me. Haha.

Interesting decision on Ikeda's part (I assume that's who "the creator" refers to). I wonder what prompted the request.

Maybe "the creator" just wanted to run their own little experiment. Who can tell? If we are lucky, maybe someone in the know will say. That would be nice...
Myself, I have always preferred left to right. It's the easiest way for me to read, and I think the damage of flipping visuals is slight. And I think it would help sales in the Americas and Europe.
It would be super nice if E book editions allowed a choice, but it is probably still way too much more work.

While it is the creator's right to write it in such a format, I wonder how that works when publishing it in a Japanese periodical seeing as how Japanese is usu. read right to left.

Presumably, it was flipped for Japanese publication. The article notes that the Japanese version reads from "right-to-left". If so, the creator seems to be asking for the original, unflipped orientation to be used overseas. Quite an unusual circumstance.

Definitely a rare occurrence that would leave one shocked, but if the creator says to do it that way, it must be respected. I like how it looks. I'll check it out.

I checked the raw chapter and I seriously can't tell which is the original. All background text on signs, billboards, etc is redrawn to read the correct way in both versions. Whoever mirrored it did an incredible job.

It's actually not a perfect flip at all and the English version is the flipped version. From what I could gather from Reddit, there are several telltale signs. I think the biggest one is how the MC's hair is flipped except in the title page which was not flipped since it was a 2-page splash. Chloe's outfit is also flipped around from the title page. Cars are driving on the opposite side of the road. A cityscape is flipped from how it looks IRL. There is also a panel with question marks where they are facing the wrong way.
So the artist asked to have this flipped specifically for Westerners. Why? Well, I'll let others speculate on that.

While we can debate the merits of flipping manga vs unflipped, manga sells incredibly well in the West and regularly tops American comics on top selling books/comics lists. I doubt manga sales would get that much of a significant boost if this became more of an industry norm again. I think there could be a case to be made for some flexibility based on the request of the manga author but I don't think it would be practical to do this for every title and given the way fans overreact to any liberties taken in localizaton no matter how small, I think reversing back to flipping practices could backfire. But ultimately I think it should be handled at the request of the creator as opposed to the demands of the fans.

I don't question the fact that the creator has the right to have it written left-to-right, but I am curious as to why he decided to choose such a format.
