YAY!!! I've been waiting for someone to review this title as I am a huge fan of the show!
I find it very intriguing that FUNimation left "neko mimi" in their English dub script. Did they by any chance leave any other Japanese terms. And how did they handle the episode previews? I remember the Japanese version had Hazuki said some riddle.

The riddles are on the DVDs. The interview in the liner notes talks about the OP song which was not originally planned to be used as an intro. I really don't see how the character designs are weak in this series although I didn't order the Hazuki 1/8 PVC (I bought 2 Sabers instead). I found a strange attachment to the characters, which will obviously go further than the designs. Oddly enough I also do not find the series slow, but then again I'm one to argue that most series feel rushed to me. I love the first two volumes and look forward to the rest of the series. I only wish that Funimation would include a double sided cover, especially since the case is transparent.

I'm really looking forward to seeing where this series goes. Moon Phase is an interesting mix of very cute and very dark. Volume 1 hints at it and I was surprised how dark the volume 2 became. Can't wait for No. 3

I like this review for volume one. If I had only seen the first 5 episodes of the series I would probably be thinking somewhat along the same lines. I think the remark on the pacing is just that this show slows down a bit after the excitement of the first two episodes so it feels like it is crawling at that point. And I also do enjoy those episodes where Hazuki is just starting to settle in to her new home and living with Kohei. However I do slightly disagree that the character designs are weak, I think this may also be a contrast to the background designs which by comparison make the characters look a bit bland, but this happens a lot in anime that have rich or unique backgrounds.
I haven't had the chance to hear the english dub yet, but from the review it sounds like something to check out.

Quote: | The case for this DVD is gorgeous. Even if you don't get the box set, the case is really nicely done. |
The "Even if you don't" is almost redundant, because at this point, it's not like you can get the Vol.1+Box very easily anymore--it sold out pretty quick, once again proving that Funimation puts the "limited" in "Limited Edition."
So if Funimation left "neko mimi" in the dub, why do the subtitles for the OP say "Kitty Ears"? I don't really mind either way, but it'd be better if they could pick one thing and be consistent with it. And it looks like Funimation is at it again with comedy-added dubbing, which I generally don't oppose. Still, from reading the advance (AKA "I've seen the fansubs and here's what I think") reviews, I classified Moon Phase as a series that I didn't care to see in any form. Then again, those reviews are based on the TV version, and not the dramatically-improved DVD version. Maybe I'll give it a chance later on after some more volume reviews come out, or when a boxed set is released.
EDIT years later: I did eventually buy the 1st boxed set, and the improvements over the TV version definitely invalidate the criticism of bad animation. The dub is an oddly schizophrenic localization. It's very liberal with its rewrites, yet it leaves "neko mimi" and some other items (itadakimasu, bentou) in Japanese.

Well that box was SPECIAL. You could tell from the pics in the FUNimation forum that it wasn't going to last long. It rates up there with Trinity Blood for being unique. No wonder it's diificult to find now.
I'm enjoying this series too and can't wait for volume 3.
