His SH film was one of the few ok ones. A 6/10 if you want. Give him a chance. He is a weirdo directer though. Very French.

I actually really enjoyed his Silent Hill movie. Sure I was 16 at the time but it was fun and he kept a lot of important stuff like pyramid head. He seems to have respect for the property.

I can't see Fatal Frame working well in live-action. I just see it being one of those obnoxious horror films with jump scares and loud noises. The first Silent Hill film was a decent effort, the film was just incredibly boring, despite some good art direction. It also lacked an understanding of the series (throwing Pyramid Head in for no reason.) So I can't really get excited for another one of those.

no, truly the silent hill movie was actually shit on ice, although it's nowhere near as bad as the next one. It's like a theme park with some SH monster mythos thrown in to have it not entirely seem like something else. To this day I can't really understand the mild fondness people have for it. Then again, I don't get why people have any fondness for Silent Hill past 1-4. It's like, past Team Silent, it's hard to imagine a more mishandled IP than Silent Hill. |

Honestly I really liked 06 Silent Hill.
It could have never been anywhere as good as the games it decided to pull inspiration from, but it was still a pretty well made film. I'll definitely check these out whenever they decide to appear. |

I really want to see a new Silent Hill game before a movie. Even at that I'd prefer Silent Hill Live Action TV series over a Movie. Silent Hill leans it's self to an anthology story. My performance would be to like a 8 or 10 episode seasons fallowing the story of three or four people/storylines that can cross and meet. Well I'd like original characters and stories they could adapted SH1 and SH3 in the same season and have have Past Harry and Future Heather meet from time to time and question how time works in Silent Hill does Heather only meet and interact with Harry in her timeline does any of the scene where Harry meets Heather in his past timeline. Or they could give side characters and expanded story like give Cybil Bennett some past guilt she has to face so she get a symbolic monster, Or show Lisa Garland's perspective as her world gets over come by zombie parasites.
As for Fatal Frame, I mean it should in theory make a good movie as long as they embrace the craziness of the some ghost designs. The MC having a camera can still make for scary game play, I think it kills the fear when watching as a movie. So make it fun, make it creepy, like the Insidious movies. |

Christoph Gans is an obnoxious chauvinist shitbag. His decision to change the protagonist of Silent Hill from a man to a woman was entirely because, and I quote:
He also went on record as believing that men are incapable of parental instinct to a degree Harry portrays because taking care of kids is a woman's job. He should literally never be allowed to direct anything that requires even a vague sense of emotional complexity because every interview of his proves that him having a vocabulary that consists of something other than caveman grunts is a miracle in itself. |

There was a pointless and totally original FF film btw and even a manga named:
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3684484/ Someone even made a one vol manga out of FF3. How? The 2nd SH film has a Pokemon battle in the 3rd act btw. Yes, that´s real. I only fast-forwarded though it but even that was a hassle. |

I'm a fan of the games and the first film.
The firt film naturally departs from the games in a lot of ways, but I believe Gans probably saw the film as likely being a one-off, and he's only get one shot at it and so combined favourite elements form Games 1-3 into somethine that was a 'Best of...' film. So we got the main plot of SH1, the monsters of SH2, and the female protagonist of SH3 in a kind of mish-mash. So long as you buy into that, then the film is pretty enjoyable. I didn't like Revelations as it was simply pretty bad. The first one has some issues, but largely works. I look forward to another effort from Gans. I hope they shoot in 3-D as well so we can soak in the town. I do feel that it'd be great if we got a faitnfhul adaptation of the games in a TV series format, and they can even spin off some original stories in there too. It'll probably happen in the future. Word is that Konami has been shopping around for devs to make two new Silent Hill games, so it looks as though we could see a bunch of Silent hill news in the future for both film and games. |

I think the '06 movie got the ascetic of Silent Hill right, but basically nothing else. I hated how it turned the game's villain into a sympathetic hero, I hated how it replaced Harry with a woman because "men don't love their daughters that much," I hated how they jammed Pyramid Head into a story he didn't belong in, yet removed the Lisa the Nurse. I hated how they sucked out basically all the subtlety and hard hitting symbolism.
I'd prefer Mr. Gans to never came within 100 miles of another Silent Hill project ever again, but hell, the brand is so destroyed at this point what does it matter? |
