I can understand series getting spin-offs, but what's with the sudden boom of them revolving around cooking and or baking? I know I'm not the only one who's noticing this trend. Is this our next isekai fad now, where you take "beloved characters" and throw 'em in the kitchen for food funnies? Not really complaining, I'm just seeing it enough times so there has to be a reason for it. Maybe filling in the hole Shokugeki no Soma left, perhaps?

I really doubt it, gourmet spin-off manga aren't that ambitious, at the very least all the ones i know were more like a whole tankōbon's worth of bonus in a parallel universe ( or just the same one ) than a new series in its own right, these series are short SoL mainly made for fans to discover the everyday life of their favorite characters without the tensions of their adventure and rarely last for a couple of year.

Also, such spin-off tend to be illustrated by new artists who have yet to start a successful serie, it serves as a good opportunity for them.

I think part of it is the popularity of cooking anime in general but also due to the JRPG influence on isekai and fantasy light novels. There’s a lot of JRPGs and adventure games like BOTW where you have cooking sidequests to complete.
