Well, guess this is one way to promote cars. Tho if memory serves this isn't the first time this has been done.

No wonder some people call it "a 300M Yen commercial."
(The production cost of GitS:SAC:SSS was about 300M Yen) |

So, this tactical squad of elites, using the most sophisticated technology available, will be driving 30 year old sports cars? How will that work out... oh well

Most of the cars they drive now look like Nissans, so it won't be that big of a stretch.

Isn't this "news" kinda OLD?
It's just that the film in question already came out several weeks ago, and those cars in it weren't noticeable at all, Nissan or not. |

It seems that in all futuristic anime series, cars have not evolved beyond gasoline or wheels. |

Does that really matter? I wonder if we'll see these kind of ventures in the future "In a world, ruled by evil, one boy stands up... to CATCH THEM ALL!" |

Concept Cars for the win. Nissan Sports Concept, and an Infiniti Kuraza. But then again, Batou drove a styalized Lancia Stratos in SAC, and a couple of the cars look like Mazda products (a 4-door RX-8?). |

They don't really look that out of place in the film. In fact, apart from a few short glimpses of the front grills with logos, you really wouldn't notice that they are product placement. Also, there may be other explainations as to why people in the GITS SAC future drive cars similar to what we have now, like Nostalgia or stagnation of design during the war, etc.
Not true. In GITS SAC it's never really shown what they put in their cars to make them go. It could be bio fuel for all we know. And anyway, GITS SAC isn't really that far into the future Also there are tonnes of anime that have "flying" cars - Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, Cinderella Boy, yada yada..
Screw the PS3 or Extreme Elmo - I want this for Christmas! |

Akira wins for product placement. There were Canon, Arai, Big 1 ,and Shoei stickers on Kaneda's bike!

I prefer the shirow designs, at least then they won't complain if the car takes damage.
