Well I don't trust Viz to do Shakugan no Shana right, but I think I will at least check out the first volume. The thing is, will Viz do all the novels or do they have the license for only the first one? I don't want to start buying novels, only to have the series dropped under me with the story unfinished.

I'd rather have Viz than Tokyopop.

Well, I'll see if I can use the Viz version of Shakugan no Shana as a guide to try to read the original Japanese one.

Wow, I have never been so happy that something was licensed. I can't wait to buy the Shakugan no Shana DVD.

I'm not really concerned as far as Shana, I might end up picking it up, but I'm not really a fan of the anime (yet?). But I am a little worried about how Brave Story is going to be treated. From my understanding, Brave Story is aimed at a slightly younger audience than Miyabe's other works, but I'd hate to see it released like a throw-away anime tie-in. I have all of Miyabe's novels that have been released in English in hardcover, so a high-quality hardcover release would be nice.
Personally, I would've liked for Kodansha International to release Brave Story, since the translation was excellent for their releases of Crossfire and Shadow Family, but I'll take what I can get. |

The anime has been licensed for a while now and the first volume comes out in October or November. This license is for the novel that the anime is based on. |

Why? The only Viz novels I've read are Battle Royale and Socrates in Love, and I thought the translation for both of those was pretty good. Better than any of Tokyopop's garbage translations. (Maybe my negative opinion of Tokyopop's translations stems from the fact that the ones I've read were just originally bad in Japanese; like the Gravitation novels for example.) |

I agree that I've had problems with TP's novel translations with Slayers, but Viz has a bad reputation with me for domesticating translations to this day. Many Japanese have a strong belief that Americans won't buy titles if said titles aren't made somewhat American, even if that means changing parts of the story. |

Last I heard, Warner Bros. has international distribution rights. So it's already been "gotten." When and in what way it will be released, though, is anyone's guess. |

I believe that Sasakura Ayato is the person who did the manga adaptation for Shakugan no Shana, Itou Noiji did the original artwork for the novels, and Takahashi Yashichirou wrote the novels. According to the AoD report, Viz has both the novels and the manga.
Now to see if Viz chooses Wilhelmina or Wirhelmina... |

i visited the viz site, but they have no record of licensing either the light novel or the manga. is this information correct? and if so, when are they releasing the actual books?
