I don't know jack shit about the original Romeo and Juliet other than both are lovers and both die in the end
Anyway, this right here is my light romcom pick of the season (not that it's got many contenders to begin with, though). The manga is just recently published here, and so far it's a faithful adaptation. |

I was looking for a good romcom for this season and Boarding School Juliet seems to fit the bill nicely. The main couple have good chemistry and the whole 'we like each other but pretend to hate each other' should be good for some continual laughs. Overall I think it's gonna be fun comfy viewing but everything will depend on how annoying the 'rivals' will get when they try to interfere in the relationship.

Yes, I really adore this show BUT EVERYONE NEEDS TO BUTT OUT. DX When they pop up to bother the couple I'm like "Just leave them ALONE already!"
Anyway, this one was just as great as the first. I laughed SO hard at [THIS scene that I was certain my family was going to go "WHAT ARE YOU LAUGHING AT!?"
This is definitely a source material thing regarding Love and Lies. Because if you read the manga....the poor director doesn't have a lot to work with. |

It's been a while since I've seen a legitimately perfect adaptation of the source material (at least thus) but this anime has really done it. They've managed to cover four chapters in two episodes without rushing the pacing. Part of that is because of the fast-paced nature of the comedy, but it also manages to only cut the most extraneous bits of the dialogue from the source. And on top of that, the art style matches the source while adding really good color and animation.
If this is going to end where I think it will, this'll be the best twelve episode adaptation I've seen this year. |

Truth. Most disappointing series I've watched in a while. |

Persia's her family name. Juliet's her given name. Same with Romio. Last edited by Morry on Sun Oct 14, 2018 10:18 am; edited 1 time in total |

...wow, somehow I'd followed the manga and never picked up on that >_> I just assumed since she was "western" that Persia was her given name O.o thanks for pointing it out! |

As someone who's been keeping up with the manga almost since day one I'm very happy with the adaptation. Well, the animation and artwork in most of episode 1 prior to the final duel was a bit underwhelming, but it's not like I was expecting a sakuga masterpiece, and episode 2 seemed a little better (or maybe I just got used to it, I don't know ). I'm also not yet entirely sold on Ayane Sakura's Hasuki, since she is my favourite character from the manga and I didn't imagine her with such a cutesy voice, but I guess a lot will depend on how she performs in her focus episode later on. The lead couple are spot on though, as are Kamiya's Scott and Sugita's Maru (even though I was initially hoping to hear Sugita as Scott instead).

Yeah, I don't blame you. He addresses her full name western style, she addresses his full name eastern style, but they both follow Japanese convention and only address each other by family name even in private. |

Hasuki fan too and i could not imagine her without such a cutesy voice honestly. Actually i've always imagined her with the cutest voice of all the heroines ( to debate with Teria ). |

Nicer and cuter than I expected!
Let's hope it'll stay like this |

I know nothing about the source material, but I prefer to watch it as an original work.
My only problem so far is its little fanservice moments, to be honest. I'm enjoying it as a rom-com, but I fear it would fall in the harem and soft ecchi trap... |

Yeah i picked up the manga not long ago. Glad to see this animated. But unlike the original story this is based off of. This will have a better journey and ending then the old school story. A story that needs to be improved apon. Long over due for a re write and this will solve that.

Boarding School Juliet by far ranks as being one of the anime I have high hopes for this autumn season. What strikes me the most with this story is that for me it’s actually funny. I can’t recall ever watching a romantic comedy, anime or otherwise, that has gotten me to laugh a couple of times. Perhaps there was one I have seen that was funny, but I do not know at this time.
Romeo is indeed a dork, and it works for this kind of story. I also admire Juliet resolve to rise against social norms and change society (which it desperately needs of changing). Another thing I find it unique that Julie, and well as Anne, have eyelashes that match their hair color. That is something I have not seen before. I wonder where this story is going to go in terms of the climax and ending. The original story did not end so well, but given the nature of this retelling I do not see how the writer/artist who is responsible for this story, Yōsuke Kaneda, can pull off something like that. It would come off as being way out of place for this kind of story I think. It makes me wonder if we are going to get a happy ending for this alternate telling or if Yōsuke has something creative in mind in which he can pull off an ending like the original without it looking out of place. Speaking of which I believe one of the reviewers mention that Romeo and Juliet needs an update retelling. I am curious to know how such a story would be like. Speaking of the reviewers I am glad to see this anime is getting good remarks. Concerning the scene most had an issue with in the first episode, I was not bother by it from a story telling perspective, but I can understand if it did rub them the wrong way. I would say it made me think less of those three delinquents. I would like to see more and I am currently thinking if I should go ahead and buy the first five volumes that are out now.
I was making the same mistake as well. Now we know. |
