I've not read Harukana Receive, but I also prefer the anime adaptations to the original manga itself in general for sports titles. I find the thrill from watching really good scenes in motion in the anime completely lacking when reading the manga version.

I'm planning on reading this, but I can already get a sense that especially art-wise, the anime is already better (it's very good so far, funny, hilarious but at the same time charming and feeling like you're on a real beach vacation, helping one forget about having to worry about stuff like paying bills, getting groceries, and it makes me want to take up volleyball again), and a nice break from the action anime out there nowadays...

Then again, I maybe shouldn't judge a book by its cover...

Well, personally I do not really like the character's design in the original manga, but I think it's really worth reading if you liked the anime. In the manga, more humor, subtle yuri jokes (well, almost subtle, given Haruka's interesting attitude toward Kanata) and a more sympathetic girl's development than in the adaptation.

P.S Thanks for the expanded review, it is really very useful for me.
