This specific malaise and despair embodies the global “millennial generation” outlook

If by global you mean "US and other already wealthy countries." On a true global scale, inequality has been decreasing this generation (something that is still true when China is excluded, though the reduction in poverty in China with globalization is certainly part of that). Then again, most people do just think of their own conditions or people mist like themselves and extrapolate. Certainly, say, California is extremely unequal.

I suppose "Megalobox" could be seen as a modernized semi-remake/reboot of sorts.

From what I recall Joe DID need to learn how to guard... there was an entire arc all about that, quite early on in fact. Danpei had to trick him into doing it.

The summary film is a terrible replacement for the original series and Discotek or CR should have just licensed the original TV show; Joe is the kind of story with a very successful day-to-day feel where you really watch the characters grow slowly and steadily. The live action movie, which Daryl rightfully dismisses, was also an abridged mess. You won't really 'get' the humanity of the series and may end up even finding it cheesy and dated without the proper build-up, which is masterful - especially in the Dezaki version of the TV show.

So I say: go for the fan translation of the manga or the anime. If you're really desperate to own it legally, but Japanese copies. Or simply campaign to have the manga and anime licensed. All of these are preferable to a clip show of the entire first season.

I am curious as to why negotiations for an Eng. dub of this show have not yet happened. If they had to stream it on Amazon Prime as a pay-to-play, so be it.
