Will this series of articles cover Gainax in 2000s and 2010s? I wanna know what made the studio to be forgotten in recent years

Yoh Yoshinari and the others said that the problem with GAINAX was their unwillingness to do original and notorious things, to make animations out of the standards that would also, in a way, be outside commercial standards, that is, always driven by people which are from outside the studio [producers].
After GAINAX lost its will to be a nonstandard studio, the animators became discouraged, and saw that the studio had become only an industry subordinate. Not always original will succeed, but if they do, this is even more rewarding for a team than an adaptation, I believe. |

I've known people like that. They're out there and adventurous, then a big trial in their life comes up and they perform remarkably well. But after that seem to be diminished and tamed.

I'm also hoping this isn't it.. Gainax still has more excellent works.. other then Evangelion that came later.. Abenobashi, Mahoromatic, This ugly yet beautiful world.. and FLCL (almost forgot that one)

Pretty good historical overview series. I will likely re-read the whole thing in one go once it's done.
One nitpick: Evangelion was released in an era where VHS tapes were still a real thing, on both sides of the ocean, so the sales wouldn't be limited to DVD copies alone. |

I wonder if any Uru in Blue scripts still exist in a compiled form. If so, it would surprise me if they had not accrued a degree of value by virtue of the studio's later output.

Yep! That is the next and final part. Post-Eva, Diebuster, Khara, GAINAX and what they are today. It's totally a rollercoaster. |

not mentioning the train wreck that was the production of Kare Kano.Hideaki Anno exaggerated the humor on an adaptation of a shoujo manga to make it feel less of a shoujo. The author hated what he did and the anime finished without a conclusion(the original manga is a bit lengthy) |

Gainax really does bring to mind the cliched line "their greatest strength was also their greatest weakness". Because they just did whatever without worrying about whether it's sensible or not, they could make some amazing stuff, but also because of that they were courting disaster every step of the way. And these days, they're effectively just another regular studio that works in an orthodox way, and their recent shows are therefore competently made, but ultimately nothing special.

Wow I was surprised that GAINAX (through General Products) had a hand in the creation of WonFes and Anime Expo. It’s interesting how seemingly unrelated things are connected like that. Definitely a worthwhile read. And I must say what cliffhanger you ended it on.

I'd say that the mass exodus of most of its talent leaving GAINAX to form Trigger had to do something with it. |
