The book is the most awful, Big Bang Theory esque “Nerd references! Cheer!”

And it’s still gonna make a bajillion dollars.

RX-78-2 appearing is cool. The title of the movie still reminds me of that Gerard Butler movie.

I was lovingly rewatching old SRW trailers getting all hyped for crossover nostalgia games that are great, and then i watched this trailer. I mean the core story might be good, but whenever I see an incoherent rabble run across a screen and they want me to take the battle seriously, I die inside. Now its an incoherent rabble of pop culture icons.

I heard this was supposed to be a good book/movie?

What Tracer is doing in a giant nostalgia piece on the 1980s' pop culture is anyone's guess.

Just because the contest itself is seeped in 1980s pop culture, doesn't mean the entire thing is. It's made quite obvious in the book that anything and everything is licensed into OASIS.

Not to mention it's in the year 2045. I imagine Tracer/Overwatch is a piece of nostalgia as well by then.

Yeah writing an article about something while doing 0 research.

The Main character is obsessed with 80's pop culture but in the VR world you can have anything.

I've read the whole book.

Tracer fitting into it is working from a loophole. COULD anything be in Oasis, sure. Does the book make a point of referencing OTHER things that aren't part of the main nostalgia, like video games from the early aughts? No. So putting her into the trailer is a deviation from the core themes/point but it's not like it up-ends the whole world to have her there.

Honestly, I hope Tomino catches wind of this, sees the movie, and tears it a new one in an interview. That'll be the best thing to come out of it.

Word is that the Iron Giant's replacing Ultraman's place in the novel because the Chaiyo nonsense was decided too late.

It’s called Ready Player One, because Family Guy: The Movie was already taken. Laughing

Apollo: They probably got Sunrise’s permission to use it in the movie.

I acquired the book in one of those promotional free Lootcrates (or some competitor, couldn't remember). I don't really like to start reading a book until I know what it's about, and it kind of turned me off when I found out how it appeals to 80's nostalgia so much, a decade I was never very fond of.

The book seems to have a lot of big fans though, who keep telling me not to worry because it's perfectly understandable and enjoyable without needing to be fond of the decade.
