This show is pretty fun to watch especially with the way it sells its humor. I honestly like it especiall with Maika and her character expressions. A lot of amusing dialogues too comes from her character.
One of the series that I definitely look forward to ever weekend. |

I was getting Working vibes before, but it was cemented when I saw a nice bit of character animation from Keisuke Kobayashi.
It’s definitely an enjoyable enough show. While March has been relatively relaxed so far, this may be nice after it has a more intense episode. Maika is a delight, and I liked Mafuyu as well - more her actual personality rather than the little sister act beyond the contrast between them. |

Surprisingly good English-language voice acting in episode 2 there. I could do without the "This is my first time doing x with friends!" moe cliché, but the humour is funny enough to make up for it

I was surprised to see uncensored references to characters from other anime in Episode 3. I recognize Hifumi from New Game, but not the green-haired girl with her nor the other girl later on. I thought that might mean they were all from the same production company, but when I looked in the Encyclopedia I couldn't make the connection. Does anyone have more insight to offer?

The green haired girl is Shinobu from Kin'iro Mosaic (an OVA was just released on march of this year). The other girl reference I did not get (I don't watch all anime  ).

The love story is really unnecessary and I do hope they don't spend more time on it, especially since his attraction to her is purely physical, which makes things even more awkward.

The new character introduction just makes me more annoyed at Crunchyroll's overtranslation. The literal translations of "imouto" and "onee-san" aren't connected in any way to the archetypes the characters are playing.

What are you talking about? Mafuyu, because of her small size and youthful looks plays the imouto part, acting cute and calling male customers "onii-san." And I think the word you are struggling for is stereotypes. Archetypes and stereotypes are not synonymous terms, assuming you actually understand what archetype means. I only point this out because you apparently have a thing for literal translations.

You seem to have misunderstood me; I was trying to say that "little sister" and "big sister" have no real connotations attached to them. In the context of the show, I'd say leaving the words untranslated is the better option because what's meant are the character types; if you don't know what "imouto" translates to, all you need to know is that an "imouto" acts like this(and given that they're playing a part, I'd say "little sister" is just a distraction for those not familiar with the concept).
And no, I did mean "archetype". Characters don't even need to be literal imoutos or onee-sans to fit them and plenty of older and younger sisters in anime don't. |

I confess I'm still confused as to what your point is. If I'm understanding you correctly, you seem to assume a show like Blend-S will be watched by a significant chunk of Westerners who do not understand what the context of a "little sister type" in anime entails. I think that is a dubious assumption. From what I can tell, the convention when creating subtitles is to use the English equivalents for every word except in those cases where there literally is no translation (which is fairly rare).

The literal translations of the terms isn't what they're referring to, which is why I called it "overtranslation" rather than anything else: it's technically correct, but it misses the point entirely.

Maybe I'm wrong but I saw somewhere that his age was 26. Which is indeed a huge gap between him and Maika. I too find it a bit creepy but I actually like the idea of them being a couple. It doesn't seem to me that Dino is really a pervert, or at least a dangerous one. |
