Now that its shown for Switch, I guess it is going to be a Switch exclusive then?

I would be surprised if it wasn't, considering how many of the recent SMT games have been 3DS exclusives. |

There are plenty of games on the Switch that are not Switch-exclusive. Some are ports to the Switch (like Sonic Mania or Puyo Puyo Tetris), and some were made with the Switch in mind (like Vroom in the Night Sky or Thumper), but either way, it being on the Switch is no indication that it won't be available on other systems.
What I'm wondering is what a turn-based RPG is going to need the Unreal Engine for. Unless there are some new mechanics or game modes, the Shin Megami Tensei games haven't really had any need for physics...or are they using it as a graphics engine? |

disappointing then being a jrpg only player, seeing that the switch lacks a decent catalog.
Guess it may give me an excuse too buy a switch with this and xenoblade chronicles 2 being released on it, hoping for a 3rd game exclusive though before i go all in. |

Umm if I'm not mistaken, Persona 5 used Unreal Engine didn't it? That's a turn based RPG too. |

It does? What does it use it for? |

My guess for this is with the Japanese being big on handhelds it made since to have them be 3DS exclusives........eventhough the main games were traditionally console games and the Vita was a thing. |

Did that say "shekhinah glory" (שכינה)? Very random.

Meh, not that random considering how obscure a lot of SMT IV:A's references ended up being.
I thought the same thing about XCOM, too, but that game managed to pull off using the Unreal Engine for turn-based combat. |

If I had to take a guess, I think SMT V will be using it for platforming and puzzles? (Demon-riding?!) From playing SMT IV, I get the impression they have been aiming for environments that players can interact with. I'm a bad SMT fan (I've tried a lot of the games, but only managed to properly finish one), but for some reason, I'm so hyped about this one. I haven't tried SMT IV:A yet, but since I heard they put a lot more story in that one, I can't help but feel SMT: V is really going to be good. I'd love to see new types of demons and mechanics too. Damn. Yeah. Looks like it's time to get a Switch. |

Some cool vibes, but I'm going to stay "cautiously optimistic" for now.
The flower motif on the (presumably) MC's outfit is interesting; I'm curious to see if this extends to the game as a whole or if it's just a random detail.
Pretty much all fully 3D Megaten games have had puzzle-solving in dungeons, so no surprise there. The only ones that really didn't were Persona 3 & 4 (with procedurally generated dungeons) and the Raidou games (with pre-rendered backgrounds), IIRC. |

I was actually thinking about things that involve a jump button and destructible environments. But let's just see it later on. |

What a foolish thing to say since the Switch has garnered a pretty impressive library of games at this point. Lots of great first party and indie games, and some decent stuff from third parties that's either already released or coming soon. And, uhh... is Mario Odyssey not a pretty damn good third reason? Also in reply to another commenter, Thumper wasn't made with Switch in mind. Especially since it originally released years before it was even a thing for PSVR. |
