Looks like great stuff, and not just because I'm on the editorial board. Wink My own dissertation on anime fandom could benefit especially from Allison and Napier's articles, but it could very well be done by the time this journal comes out; oh well.

Now to complete that book review for the next issue...

I second the endorsement (and, like Lothar said, not just because I'm on the board). I'm particularly looking forward to reading the essays by Ueno Toshiya and Mari Kotani. In general, I don't think there's been enough cross-cultural dialogue between American and Japanese writers regarding anime and manga.

I'm very enthusiastic about this news as well! I'm writing my thesis on Mamoru Oshii (many thanks to Brian for his useful book) and the announcement of an academic journal on anime and manga gives credibility to our field of research.

I'm looking forward to read it, though it's still a year away.

That's great, Frederic. Let me know what you come up with in your thesis -- even if (actually, especially if) you disagree with the things I wrote.

Son of a...

Wish I had had this journal last semester when I was writing about Christianity in Japanese pop-culture. Hmph.

Can't wait to actually check this one out...if my school or local library gets it that is.
