I doubt it's Mega Man. Mega Man's creator wouldn't have left Capcom if they were doing anything with the character!

Companies like Capcom are in a precarious situation right now. It's so expensive to develop for console platforms and the nature of the game market is very different.

[Really, one of the reasons why Sega survives to this day is that they got out of the primary console market before they fell too deeply into debt. The company's diversified and not completely dependent on videogame sales although they are still a big part of their business -- although you wouldn't know it! It's a shame because they were very prominent for most of the 1990s and arguably had the premiere, cutting edge arcade development teams in the mid-1990s. No other company would have produced Daytona USA or the Virtua series games like they did.

[Nintendo will survive, too, if the Switch proved to be a failure since it's got its hand in multiple businesses and franchises. They WILL continue to make portable systems and portable games even if they leave primary console development and become third party for Sony and MS -- IF they have another console failure. I predict they won't go 3-for-3 failures and try again if the Switch were to fail...]

I know in Japan that consoles are not selling that well... They haven't since the PS2 era. Mobile games and Nintendo portables are the big thing in Japan. Most of the consoles sales are outside of Japan and while they appear to be doing well fact is companies are having a much harder time recouping development costs from software titles -- that's why we see over-reliance on sequels to recent titles. That's been a trend for at least two console cycles now (and frankly I didn't find much to be excited in during the PS3/XBox 360 era and it's been kind of meh this cycle, too -- and I don't own a new-gen console right now!). That's why Street Fighter V came out so quickly... because SF IV was a hit! SF V hasn't DONE as well as SF IV but it probably did better than say a Darkstalkers, Rival Schools, or (yes) Mega Man title would have.

Everybody has their favorites but some of these game titles...? They literally haven't done a completely new game with some of them in close to 20 years now! The last brand-new (new characters) Darkstalkers title came out in 1997 (and DS was never that popular outside of Japan and I am a HUGE DS fan)! I, for one, would LOVE to see a new DS title using SFIV/V technology but it's not happening. Capcom gauged interest for it by doing a re-release of DS2/3 for the PS3 and XBox 360 years back and the title just didn't sell above mediocre levels.

Right now, it's zombie games and SF for Capcom because that's what's selling. I kind of hope they take a chance, or do something economical that makes them money. They almost didn't survive the 1990s because they over-relied on cartridge sales of the SF2 franchise and nearly went under from the debt of over-printing those games for the SFC/SNES and MD/SG. That won't happen today because they can accurately print-to-disc for gamestore orders but they still won't make much money before they hit a 1million+ copies of a game in many cases (for any major company)!

Megaman? Would Capcom have the guts?

Breath of Fire? Ghouls 'n Goblins? Darkstalkers? Power Stone? Onimusha? Okami?

I could go for something new actually. I'd be happy with Megaman or Ace Attorney though.

There's also Monster Hunter. That franchise has done well for them in recent years.

Why would they need guts to make a new Megaman game? It's not exactly a huge risk idea.

Inafune didn't leave Capcom because they weren't doing anything with Megamam hell prior to him leaving they were developing two Megaman games and had not too long before this dropped 10. His reasons for leaving had a lot to do with presumably wanting to break free from both them and the Japanese gaming industry he once infamously (and not too undeservingly) threw under the bus.

I really hope they'll bring Dai Gyuaten Saiban to the West... With a second installment coming out in Japan this year, I think we finally deserve to get the first version of the game.

We didn't get the 2nd Gyakuten Kenji game for the DS. Little to no chance of us ever getting either Dai GS game outside of a potential iOS/android port.
