That's their statement. Or was it the fact that it was hacked few months ago to play the entire NES library?...

Not really; the whole NES library already got hacked long time.

Not making enough units to meet demand seems like a really dumb decision. They are just throwing away money.

Heaven forbid that people would use a games console to play all the games manufactured for said console!

It does preclude them from selling "expansions" to the compatible game library.

The only people who'll be happy about this are the eBay vendors who mass-bought as many copies of it as they could, because their resale prices just doubled or tripled in value.
I would've been interested in buying one if I'd ever seen one available at the store, but I guess that's never going to happen now.

If Nintendo ever decides to produce a SNES Classic, I hope they won't do what they did with the NES Classic (under-stocking it).

I stopped keeping up with the NES Classic Edition about a month after it came out, but was it ever actually available for the retail price of $59.99 at all? Whenever I searched for it online, it's either sold out/unavailable or being sold by third party retailers on Walmart or scalpers on eBay for much more than the retail price. Nintendo really dropped the ball with the NES Classic Edition in so many ways that I shouldn't need to explain.

What made Nintendo think this was a good idea? There's tons of people now that still want one, and barely any were made during the holiday season. The ONLY time I remember "seeing" one is at a Gamestop where it is just the empty box, with a small note that said "We don't have any any NES Classics, and we don't know when we'll get more of them."
It's one thing if it's been out and easily available for months, but.... discontinuing it now? Doesn't make sense to me.

Most likely explanation is they priced it quite aggressively probably based on a 1m unit production run and either smaller batch orders of 150k or less have only a marginable return or costs have risen due to currency fluctuations and they don't want to produce bigger batches and risk having a load of unsold stock or smaller batches and sell them at a loss/jack up the price for what was supposed to be only a limited edition.

high demand, so they stop making it...Did ANY of the people at Nintendo ever take a business class? The choices were: make more for the same price, stop making it, or increase stock AND increase price. I would think that a BUSINESS would know the logical choice...they are throwing MILLIONS of dollars away for NO REASON. I'm sure they could increase the selling price to $100-$120 and there'd be no complaints because all that people want from Nintendo is to OWN the thing. Some complain about the lack of games, but most seemingly don't if the demand is so high...
