I personally think the show is off to a solid start so far in particular the first episode. Good music, colorful character cast, and I definitely like the way the mecha is designed. Maybe if it's successful enough, it will get another 2 cour as it's confirmed 25 episodes for now.

Oh and RAISE YOUR FLAG!

Great opening two episodes that have cemented this as my sow of the season. This and One Punch Man gave turned this fall into an unexpectedly strong season.

The show is great so far. The fights actually have tension to them,And the characters are great so far.Interested in where they go with the whole nanomachine idea(did that hack Kojima have a hand in the script),which is a much a better reason for having elite pilots than the Newtype nonsense.

It's still very early though. Am hoping the fights don't get tedious, and they don't have any pointless fights that don't advance the plot at all.

To think all it took to make Gundam appeal to plebeians was to make it derivative again. I remember this same situation that came about 13 years ago when SEED came after Turn A while the latter was underappreciated for being too "different" then SEED comes along boosting every popular trope imaginable to sell itself to populous with a subpar product. And now here's IBO a show that offers nothing new, does nothing particularly well and is just a staple of what constitutes for modern mecha anime nowadays but gets praised for being SERIOUS and reminding them of previous less than stellar Gundam outings Wing and 08th Team. Can't say I'm surprised since I predicted this would happen though I think people will be more forgiving of the slip ups in this than the outright disdain AGE received before it aired or the negligence G-Reco was given.

I don't know, episode 2 had some really poor spots of writing. Particularly the exposition monologue courtesy of Coral. I don't see Kudelia as more complex than the usual political princess, either. How often have we had the royal/rich (usually female) character realize that she actually knows nothing about real-world struggles? Mikazuki is pretty bland too.

At least Biscuit doesn't feel out of place with his snack-themed sisters' names. They have the potential to be annoying, but right now it's nice to see a loving family.

Animation wasn't that great in ep 2, either. Plus some off-model shots. Hope the series doesn't take a nosedive in quality midway.

Right now, I'm most interested in the space politics and how it will relate back to the kids. Also liking the music.

What is Iron-Blooded Orphans derivative of? If there was more mecha/military animes like this I'd like to know about them.

One thing that seems to be missing right now is a big threat. Currently the child soldiers are caught up a purely politically modivated scheme. Though I suspect open war will probably break out between Mars and Earth at some point.

Another reason why this show kicks ass... so far, no Newtypes!

Damn near every real robot anime that's been release after SEED. Rolling Eyes

Real talk though if you're really interested in a military mecha anime than last year's Argevollen is good.

Every* real robot anime released after SEED has involved teenagers in high school some how.

There's no high school in this anime. Already points for originality.

*not actually 'every' Just too damn many.

EDIT: My larger point is, this the closets to the Armored Trooper VOTOMS side of the Mecha spectrum I'm getting right now, so I'm going to take it.

Does it really even matter if that cast mainly consists of teenagers? Seems like a useless thing to bring up especially since school is never really brought up again after the first episode of some cases. Anywats M3 is another one and you'd be happy to know doesn't take place in a school. Rolling Eyes

I'll say this show has more in common with Dougram than VOTOMS and that latter gets really ridiculous the more it goes on.

I've never watched any Gundam before this, but I have to say that I'm really enjoying Iron-Blooded Orphans. I'm not sure where it's going, but I want to stick around for the ride. The OP is also great.

I imagine the big threat will hit sometime in the future. Right now, the basic child soldier vs. army with political ground is good enough to get a basic foundation. A ton of characters were introduced in these couple episodes, even excluding ones that have/will soon die. A Big Bad Catalyst might be too much right now.

overwrought Gundam: Reconguista in G

It's OK G-Reco, some of us still love you. ;_;

With Iron-Blooded here, yeah, it's got stereotypical elements and less-than-clever bits (rebelling space peoples but Mars this time so totally different!!), but at this point it does feel like it could go either way. It is certainly much better than most other shows airing right now, gotta give it that much. Good on them for finally getting their Gundam show streaming act together, definitely makes it easier to stick around to find out.

You call IBO derivative (which it largely is for the moment, the most novel aspect is the shirtless pilot) based on the first 2 episode. But then you bring up Argevollen? I don't know how it evolved cause I stopped watching after the second episode because it tried just too hard to cram as many cliche element as possible.

Anyway, IBO is decent at the moment, which honestly feel like a damn miracle after all the recent gundam. It quickly need to introduce more interesting cast though (which it seems like its doing). I don't see how the princess is anything special for character, she's pretty much every peace loving princess ever. Same for most bad guys, there pretty much clown.

Looks like I'm going to have to add another entry to my list of "Ridiculously-Named Gundam Characters".

Nothing beats Bring Stability, though.

Also, I'm hoping Bandai will announce an SD Barbatos kit soon (yes, I know there's already an NXEdge, but I'd rather have a kit, not an action figure).
