Cool news. I love Mazinger, it's a shame that it's not popular in the US compare to Gundam and Eva.

Discotek put out Shin Mazinger Z out on DVD (and the original Mazinger Z for that matter). Granted that was a show that demands an HD release. But there is a little bit of Mazinger penetration in the anime market.
Mazinger, like GetterRobo, is just seen as kind of old fashion I think. But that is why I love it.

I would've preferred a sequel to Shin Mazinger but I'll still watch this. My problem with this kind of movies is that they never get a continuation therefore it's just a rehash of what's been done before and nothing else.

That's what I hope for when Shin Mazinger Z came out in 2009 that Funimation or Bandai would have pick it up at the time. Sadly that didn't happen. ADV release Getter Robo Armageddon and Mazinkaiser on VHS & DVD when Gundam was big on Toonami. I would hope that Mecha fans would try other mecha outside of Gundam and Eva at the time, but no one bother to watch them .

Might have to do with the fact that some of these shows are super old that and they may simply not have the things that made Eva or Wing appealing to people who liked those shows.

Some of those shows were newer and tended to get cult audiences, while more recent releases like Shin were sub only.
Then we have Voltron where it feels like half the fans could care less about the robot.

Super Robot shows are in same league as Giant Monsters. Their big, stompy, they have big epic fights (generally) and so for different kind audience.
I love them, i hated recent Shin versions of Getta Robo and Magzinger. The ones that were very weird...not like the original versions.
I hope the film is good, though its from different era, for fans who like different kind of anime.

Mazinkaiser and Getter Robo Armageddon where new when Gundam Wing and G Gundam was airing on Toonami. I'm surprise the Eva and Gundam kids didn't want to check out those shows when they came out.
