I hope this does not mean Kun Gao will push for the production of more Chinese Cartoons (bloodivores, spiritpact, cheating craft, etc.)

I am baffled that no one has mentioned this before. Crunchyroll is supposedly a so called american company (says so in the article), yet they have actively promoted this chinese productions, but the only anime production with western influence they have helped produce is Shelter? Somebody might say the chinese markets produces more income than the USA, but if you add up all the minutes the three series I mentioned and compare that amount of time with the length of the Shelter video, something does not add up (translation: american company with a chinese promotion agenda, wtf!?)

Everybody wants a piece of the Chinese pie, I guess. The rest of the world has been paying them for decades for outsourced labor. Might as well return the favor by paying for other countries' stuff now. I imagine the situation will change should China's domestic entertainment business ships up and improves enough for Chinese audiences to be interested in their own stuff, but I have no idea if that will ever happen. |

I suspect that (again) you did not understood what I wrote. By Chinese Cartoon I really meant chinese intellectual property. Those three series I mention (plus TO BE HERO and Hitori No Shita: The Outcast) are assigned to japanese studios for production (China has animated series since the Batman TAS, but the direction has been provided for them from outside) but the idea/web novel is chinese. The basis of my assumption is that this chinese cartoons are so boring you have not seen them (or quickly forgotten them if you saw a preview). I do not consider them to be anime or interesting, hence the name. It is my belief that at the moment nothing really interesting is being produced by the chinese web/light novel writers, they are too "green" and the chinese government will not allow anything thought provoking/"revolutionary" to be published; the communist party believes they are the brain behind the people and know a good writer could fill the minds of young chinese with ideas they do not like or think that could be dangerous. |

Yes, I do know what you meant, and I am referring to entertainment companies here and there wanting to appeal to Chinese audiences because they aren't really producing much worth watching in their own country. The bit about outsourcing was a joke, the idea being that lots of other countries give money to China for manufacturing, and now the Chinese, with a lot of new money, are very willing to spend it back to these countries. |

The simple fact that he is doing the job himself instead of hiring someone else means he wants direct contact with japanese anime production studios (to produce even more chinese related ip, imo). No one does somebodies else job unless he really likes it or needs to remove an obstacle.
By "here and there" I suppose you mean "china and japan". Which is natural, anime streaming has become big business in recent years so many chinese companies must be asking chinese streaming services to get them in touch with japanese anime studios. My pet peeve is that an "american" company should be doing a lot more to bring the USA and japan companies together. Why? Because then crunchy gets more exclusive deals (remember they have Funi, Netflix & Amazon as competitors) and they will probably not have to spend their own money in the production. How? Remember that Dungeons & Dragons cartoon (ok, you probably weren't born when it first showed up, but there are re-runs)? It was animated by Toei to promote the AD&D pen-and-paper rpg game, but TSR did not paid for it, they got Marvel "we do cartoons also" Productions to pay for it, a win-win situation. There are many big enough companies (book publishers, game companies, comic book companies not part of disney or warner, etc.) in the USA that do not have an office in japan with the know how to get an animated version of their franchises done and no doubt many of them would love to use anime as an 24 minutes commercial just like japanese companies do. |

No, I am referring to any country with a large and thriving entertainment industry, not simply "China and Japan," and I am not even including China because it does NOT have a large and thriving entertainment industry.
The concept is very simple: Chinese audiences, collectively, are a huge potential source of revenue, which has already been proven via movies like the Transformers movies and Warcraft. Movie studios, TV production companies, and to a lesser extent game companies want some of that revenue. For that reason, it's become an increasing priority to make works palatable to Chinese consumers (and the Chinese government). That's it. You're making it sound way more complicated than it should be. |

That is so last year, keep up with the times :p I hope Mr. Kun Gao proves me wrong and bring this year some cool east-west anime productions, courtesy of Crunchyroll. |
