Whoever nominated Captain Tsubasa...
As much as it pains me, you're right. In fact, there was always this joke among fans of the M Triplets: Misaki, Misugi and Matsuyama, plus Sorimachi. But right now, I feel that a lot, and I mean A LOT of series have the same SAO girl face template. Not just within the series, but also without. Cut the moe. |

The description of Suehiro Maruo's work brought to mind someone else. Took a while to remember enough to track them down, but it's Horihone Saizou who specialises in guro and weird half animal/insect people. Not in the encyclopedia is seems, probably because Baka Updates only has one or two non-H titles

I've actually had trouble sleeping after reading some Junji Ito titles.
Especially the one about his cats. |

I wanted to vote for Takeuchi's sin at first, but K-On is undoubtedly the worst offender.

Damn, haven't read that one yet. Is that actually scary? I saw a few panels and it looked so bizarre. I just burned through a bunch of Junji Ito's short stories recently and this was all before I went to bed. So yeah, had trouble going to sleep, worrying about the possibility that some kid with a set of sharp dentures was going to eat me while I slept. |

Because of spoiler[A-ko's white eyes?] Because the way he drew the cats made me want to hug them really tightly. |

4 chapters of Uzumaki were enough to give me nightmares

I read Junji Ito's Uzumaki on a warm, sunny day. It took me a while to get to sleep that night, and even longer before I could look at snails again. I do want to read more of his manga, though, when I work up the courage

Ha! I'm already familiar with 6 of these mangaka, and a big fan of 4 of them. The Drifting Classroom is among my favorites, although mentioning the spoiler[time travel to the future] is really a big spoiler. The kids think they've been warped to an alternate universe for a large portion of the series before that reveal.
I'm unfamiliar with Nakayama since it seems Fuan no Tame is only available via scanlation, so I figured Mohiro Kitoh or Naoki Urasawa would get the nod there. |

I love Junji Ito's stuff. So good, and such a variety.
I really need to keep reading Fuan no Tane; I did an assignment on it in University LOL. I've been wanting to read Portus for like over 5 years, I swear. When will I get to reading it. Will I ever read it? Is it even worth it? Man.... I hope more Umezu stuff gets translated. I only have a couple of his works. Surprised Hideshi Hino isn't included. He does some messed up stuff. There's also that other person whose stuff reminds me of Usamaru's work; really bizarre and unpredictable. Uh... For the life of me I can't remember their name nor their work.. Keigo...shino...K....Kei...something..........? |

S far I've enjoyed a few of Junji's works (they were awesome!) and currently enjoying Umezo's long work Fourteen, which is also impressive!
Will defenitely check out the other guys. |

If anyone is interested, here's a webcomic that follows the same themes as these authors called Necrosis: http://necrosiscomic.tumblr.com/post/141032023010. It includes body horror, witchcraft, and a lonely necromancer.

I was also surprised not to see Hideshi Hino on this list as pretty much everything that I know of that's been published in the USA by him is horror, some of it pretty strong stuff.
