I'm glad to see this getting an anime adaptation. Seems like there's a lot more comedy than anticipated but it should of been expected from Ouran's director.
Great soundtrack and OP song so far (one of my favorites). I think the show will head into a more serious route after the second episode though. I also really like Dazai in this show so far, just such a funny character to watch

I really love the direction of the ending theme, really really beautiful.
Although...maybe I misinterpreted something, the ending keeps giving me a "love triangle" feel...

I have a feeling the comedy will become less abundant as the series progresses - which is a shame, since it's currently my favorite thing about this show. None of the jokes or character quirks are particularly original, but the sharp comic timing and strong direction certainly make the humor feel fresh.

Was it the almost-hand-hold, the petting, or just how pretty much every other shot was composed to evoke a triangle? Hooray for subtlety.
I was ready to call shenanigans on the whole thing when Dazai tried to play the "no homo" card at the end of episode 1. It's Enokido/Igarashi. Of course there will be homo. And it will be fabulous.

IIRC, he said something like "you're not my taste in men". Which is not so much "no homo" as "homo, but not with you" (riiiight)...
After the first episode I also got a love-triangle feel, but having seen the ED again in the 2nd, I think Ryunosuke Akutagawa might turn out to be more of an ex. Meaning a former friend, of course...

I don't think the comedy will go away but I agree I think it will keep getting more serious too. The direction and extra body language animation really do add nicely to the timing of everything.
BONES is killing it with their gorgeous animation for both this and My Hero Academia this season. Only Kabaneri's movie-quality first episode was better (hopefully they can keep it up) with Trigger's eye-catching Kiznaiver just below them of the stuff I've watched so far.
Really liking the beginning of this, the art and music is really cool, looking forward to more.

I'm mostly enjoying the humor in this show, even though I rarely find it super funny (I agree with Jacob's preview guide summary that it reminds me a lot of Black Butler in its camp and humor, and I felt similarly about that show). However, the suicide jokes are getting really old and feel a little tasteless. Reducing a suicidal famous author to "lol he's obsessed with suicide" feels like the kind of joke that tryhard "edgy" teenagers would write and find funny. It's one of those moments when I realize "yeah, I'm probably too old for this anime... that doesn't mean I'm going to stop watching it, though."
Also, it's BONES, and it's also Yoji Enokido. It's nice to see him working on something that's a little closer to his comfort zone, than yet another overstuffed mecha show.

Like with others, I find the humor of the show enjoyable, but doesn't make me laugh, which is OK. The animation looks good, and the various interactions between the characters so far carry the show well. It reminds me of the previous Season's Active Raid is which that there's a show that deals with serious matters, but takes them on in a somewhat light-hearted tone.

I know nothing about these authors, so I really appreciate Rebecca filling us in on some details. I hope she continues to do so, because it's clear that those in the know would get more out of this anime than those like me.

I don't know them either so I agree it's really cool to read.
And I think this is the type of show that's going to keep getting better as it goes. I'm glad it's already planned for split-cour so we know it's getting a good number of episodes.

Fun-Fact: It’s because the book character Naomi was inspired by the real-life Junichiro Tanizaki’s sister-in-law (with whom he was apparently obsessed). It's probably why they're brother and sister in this show, though I still think anime Naomi was teasing when she said all that stuff about them being blood siblings.

This lost me.
The disconnect was extremely jarring and completely inorganic and the second half is exactly the type of show I can't stand. Mega-bad villains against Angsty-cool badasses.
And besides... Rashomon may be about a murder but it's also a mystery and a philosophical exploration on the nature of truth, point of view, and justice (at least the movie is)... This guy's power is more like something to come out of a Clive Barker novel.

Ooh! One I know because I love that movie!
Rashomon the movie isn't based on Rashomon the short story, aside from the cosmetics of it. The movie's themes are drawn from another of his short stories. Rashomon the short story is about the brutality of survival and ambiguous morals of stealing from the dead and /or living to survive. I can see his power being somewhat related.
I completely agree that the transition between the two halves was terrible. The anime feels like a bit of a mess. I'm going to wait and see if it evens out some.[/b]

I'm enjoying this series I just think it's trying to be really funny when its not. maybe the manga is like that as well I'm not sure. The art and the story are great I'm interested to see where it goes. I wish they would just slow down the forced humor and land fewer but stronger comedic moments.
